We just adopted Rose & Petunia from a wonderful rescue in Marietta, Georgia. We found them through petfinder.com website. They are very young, and it is possible that Petunia may be the mother of Rose, although since they were dumped at a vet's office, we'll never know for sure. Petunia currently weighs 888 grams, and is probably around 6 months old. Rose currently weighs about 554 grams, and is probably around 2.5 to 3 months old. They were taken by the rescuer to a
cavy-savvy vet for an examination before we picked them up (after our vacation in Atlanta last week). They appear to be in good health. They spent about 2 weeks in the vet's office where they were dumped, and our rescuer had them for a bit over 2 weeks when we got them. She has helped 43 guinea pigs find new homes since December! She still has 7 adoptables (upstairs), and then she has 10 of her own piggies (which she keeps downstairs). She highly promotes C & C cages & proper care & diet for
cavies. We feel really good about them having been in her care the last couple of weeks.
They are currently quarantined from Skittles. He is in our master bathroom, and they are in the living room in the 2x5 C & C cage. The kids have been doing really well about only petting and holding Rose/Petunia or Skittles, unless they first change shirts and wash their hands (all the way to their elbows is what we say).
We are going to be doing daily weighings for a while to make sure they are adjusting okay to their new environment.
Rose weighed 386 gm on 5/21, 570 gm on 6/7 (adoption day, their scale) and 554 today (on our scale).
Petunia weighed 826 gm on 5/21, 952 gm on 6/7 (adoption day, their scale) and 888 gm today (on our scale).
We have the same brand of scale as the rescuer, but calibration could be off. We are going to be doing daily weighings every morning before we give them their salads, so there will be some regularity to the weights.
I'm attaching a picture of our beautiful girls (who are spayed, by the way, in case you were worried about us putting 2 girls with a male). Since we are so far from the rescue, she thought a spayed female would be better than a male, in case the two males would go through adolescence & stop getting along. She happened to have 2 spayed females, so we decided to bring them both home.
Thanks for letting me share!
