I have a question about Barbering. My Gertrude Has recently begun to do this to an extreme, worse than I've ever seen in pictures. I'm wondering, because there isn't hardly any info on guinealynx.com other than it's nothing serious and it's hard to get them to stop, Do they ever stop doing this? Or once they start barbering themselves, because as of right now she is only doing it to herself, do keep doing it. I'm just asking because shes starting to work up a very nice bald spot up her legs and, which I thought was odd, Her back. I mean, is there anything I can do to get her to stop? |

Does she seem to have dry skin? If it's dry skin, I might have a remedy for you... |

I don't think so, We took her to the vet when we first noticed that she looked like she was scratching a lot. We were afriad she had mites/lice. But the vet said she looked fine and healthy, she was just starting to barber herself a little. So I don't know. I'd really like to hear it anyway to give it a try. |

I'll give you my advice for dry skin just in case. My boy, Bodie, barbers his back, and it drives me nuts. He was treated with 3 rounds of ivermectim (sp?) and checked for all skin conditions. Eventually we figured it must be dry skin and the stress of living with 4 ladies. Here's what I did. I went to a health food store and bought Organic Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Coconut Oil. You can find it with other oils like olive, vegetable, etc. It's a solid, but melts at 76 degrees. I applied some of this to his back where is was barbering, and he stopped. He still itches once in a while, but he no longer falls over 5 times a day from scratching, and no longer barbers. His hair has started to grow back as well. It makes his back look a little greasy, but it has done wonders for him. I apply more as needed. |

I should also add that cost about 13 dollars for about 15 ounces, so it's worth it to try it, and if it doesn't work out, you can always use it in cooking/baking. |
