Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 How can you tell if your piggies are too cold or too hot? I leave my windows open a lot and don't mind the cold breeze right now, but i don't know if it is to cold for them. Thanks for the help. |

I would refer to Guinea Lynx for their recommendations. I haven't been there in a while. However, I've had different vets give me different ranges...anywhere from 55 degree's fahrenheit to 75 degrees fahrenheit or 65 degree's to 75 degree's. I know it's a narrow range and pigs cannot tolerate high temperatures and are prone to heat stroke. I also know they cannot be in drafty areas. I would prefer keeping the windows closed if it's cold at night or if it's windy. During the day, they need to be out of direct sunlight. However, I would recommend referring to Guinea lynx, to me, they are the guinea pig "guru's" on piggy health and medical issues they can also tell you what's the norm and what's not. |

According to the link below (found here on the site) guinea pigs ideal room temperature is a stable temp between 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit (18-24 degrees Celsius). Cage Location Even if the temperature in the room is a good temperature, I'm more concerned with the draft your pigs might be getting from the open window. If you need to leave the window open I'd make sure they are not near it and/or blocked from the wind that might be hitting the cage. |

As I will be getting our two piggies from a rescue this weekend, I am looking for advice on where to put them. I wasnt to put them in our family room, but our family room has windows that take up the whole wall, on each wall. On one of the walls we usually keep the curtains closed as well as the windows. We have central air, and also the room keeps its tempature well, warm for winter, and we have centrala ir for summer, and we open up one of the windows when there is a nice breeze. Do you think it will be ok to put them in there? |

I think your family room sounds fine, as long as the pigs aren't in direct sunlight. I recommend using a stand for the cage (you can make it out of extra grids) so it will be less drafty. |

Speaking of drafts... It's getting warmer here in Lodi, so we've been running the ceiling fan a lot when we sleep. Since the pigs are in our room, should i worry about this? It's too hot without it, so I don't think they are cold... just wondering about the air flow. |
