About a year ago I had one piggy which had lived by himself for many years. I did a little research and got him a bigger cage and I adopted a couple of friends for him. Anyways, I always took care of them, and loved them and they were healthy and happy but I never really spent any time with them. Anyways, a few weeks ago he died, he was 6 years old and I felt so sad as he'd always just been around since I was young. Since then, my love for piggies has just grown so much. I didn't want to ignore them anymore, every day I cuddled with the one piggy I had left and I talked to him, til I got him a friend last week. I've joined this forum and another forum of the shelter I adopted them from. And I have gotten so much info, that i'm constantly changing something to make their lives better. I spend some time with them at least every day and put them out on the run at least on weekends, and afternoons on weekdays when I can. I am so happy now and I love my piggies more than ever. After my piggy died a few weeks ago I realised I wasn't really there. I'm now on my way to expanding the hutch and adding two more piggies. I'm in love with piggies, hehe!! I just thought I would share with you all the joy I have re-found in having guinea pigs and I will cherish every moment with them! |

That is awesome! I'm still trippin on the fact that I really protested when my daughter announced that she and a classmate had chosen to get and breed Guinea Pigs as there FFA project .Shortly after the purchase of our "Oliver" I found this forum and thanks to all of the wonderful, kind, and loving people here I have learned so much about my Lover boy and the do's and don't s about caring for guinea pigs. THANK GOD! especially since the girls were seriously thinking they would breed them. ![]() We got "Oliver" last August from Petsmart. Yes I know that pet stores are big no nos! However, did not know it then. I had no clue prior to getting him what loving happy little creatures they really are not to mention the joy they have brought into our lives. I'm so happy as well as very proud to say we now have 2 beautiful boys living here at "Levi and Oliver's Piggie Palace" Oliver was pretty tiny when we got him and guessing I say he is about 9 months old now and our newest little boy Levi is 2 months old he was 5 weeks old when we adopted him at the beginning of Feb. I just love the boys with all of my heart and cant imagine ever being without them. |

That's so sweet! I got my very first from my sister cuz she thought she had two males, but then came out one morning and there were three more piggies in the cage so I got one, she was three weeks old I think. She died two years ago from cancer. I got for her a friend from a pet shop as back then I also didn't know about shelters. I sort of thought that the one I already had was a boy so I got another boy but I found out later, unfortunately the bubs didnt come out alive. So I tried again and had the idea of selling them to pet shops, but they died again so I stopped and separated them. I housed the piggies completely crap, but I didn't know any better. Anyways, now I know and I'm happy and I don't get angry or annoyed at people who have piggies housed wrong, because they simply don't know, I just give them advice. And I will never again buy from a pet store. That includes any animal I ever get. Well I don't know if you can adopt budgies.... anyways, thanks for your post, lovely to read! |
