I have two boars right now that are both on the smallish side. This is a picture of Chingy to show how small he is. I buy my pigs food at the SPCA, because it is the only place to get oxbow food without going to Petsmart or Pet Supplies PLus. While I was there I saw an adorable boar with orange hair and a small white tuft on his head. He allowed me to pick him up and handle him, both of my guys run and hide if you make any sudden movements. I have all the materials to make another 4x2 C&C cage but I would rather make a second level to save on space. My only reservation is the fact that he is at least twice the size of my largest pig. Is there any problem with adding such a large pig as long as they get along??? |

How old are your current pigs, and how old is their prospective new friend? From what I've read, adding boars tends to be easier if there's a reasonable age-difference between them. Although it does also depend on the personalities of the boars involved too. There is some info here on it (about 1/3 way down the page). Guinea Pigs Social Life |

My guys are between 1.5 and 2.5 years old, I am not completely sure. I got them about a year ago but they haven't grown much since, I didn't even realize how small they were until I saw other adult pigs. I am also unsure of the the boar's age that I am looking at. The link to his page on petfinder is: Adopt a Guinea Pig: DUNKIN: Petfinder Thanks again. Last edited by CallMeBricks; 04-04-09 at 10:40 am. Reason: wrong link |

Oh! what a cutie! I love orange pigs! I think that if your two guys are past puberty it's best to add a prepubescent boy (I'd say from the pics the orange man is full grown, past puberty.) But, the size difference could actually work in your favor, anything that makes dominance easier to figure out could be helpful for them. Maybe orange-man would just become the natural leader, and make it easier on everyone? If you do decide to adopt the piggy I just wanna put the name Creamsicle out there, not very manly, but I think it fits. |

Actually, the smaller of my two pigs is the dominant one, I think he has Napolean Syndrome. He, Chingy, will chatter occasionally and place his head on the other boar's, Tom's, back, but Tom never cares or retaliates. I just wonder what will happen if Chingy decides to do that to a boar that's almost three times his size. The pig I am looking at seems really laid back, however that could be due to the fact that he is in a cage that is probably just over 1X1 grid size !!! He couldn't run if he wanted to. |

Remember that "adding a second level to save on space" isn't going to count toward the minimum space needed. Only the ground floor counts for floorspace. I have 4 boars in a 4x3 grid space (with an extra level). Two (the peruvian and the Silkie) are much larger (double the size, give or take) of the other two (the skinnies). Personality has everything to do with it. Of our 4, only one (the silkie) has a dominant personality, and the other three are content to let him be the boss. Do you know if the potential new pig has ever been with others? |
