I have a guinea pig that is only 5 weeks old. When I put him on the floor (inside a grid-like pen) he doesnt run laps. He just walks around and sometimes he will go inside a house and sit there. Is it normal for young pigs to exercize less than grown ones? And will it effect him if he isnt exercizing. |

Is he alone? They are usually more active with other pigs. Give him tunnels and toys to explore during floor time. If you give them a hidey, they tend to just sit there usually. |

He may be scared as he might not be familiar with the environment you put him in. Try coaxing him out with food and comforting him. If he has a friend put his friend in there with him, that will help raise his confidence and he might begin to run and play then. |

If he is on a sheet or something you could try putting hay in diffrent places. This always made my Guinea pig go crazy. |

Also make him feel calm and talk to him. Like iAl3X said, he is still getting used to his surroundings. hope this helps |

Don't take his hidey away; it will only make him scared. If you give him lots of hideys and tunnels, he's more likely to come out knowing that he has lots of places to hide if he gets scared. Other than that, just be patient. Do you have a friend for him? |

If they don't have anything to stimulate play, then they just won't play or anything. You need to be proactive and not reactive. Also, having a friend would help. Playing by yourself isn't very fun so how can you expect your pig to have fun alone? Just don't give an exercise wheel or ball, they are very dangerous. |

I think they don't feel good alone, in my country there is interdiction to have only one piggy. How do you feel always alone ? Not very good without companion. Best regards Christa |
