Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Well, I got a guinea pig back around fat tuesday. His name is Jambalaya. I just got him a new friend today. Its another boy and I named him Gumbo ( ). Anyway, we have them separated and Jambalaya didn't seem to mind at first, just stayed in his house. We (me and my boyfriend) thought it would be nice if they met face to face for a minute on mutual territory (his bed). Then Jambalaya went crazy. He made a really fast chirrping sound?? (I dont know what guinea pig sounds mean what, He is usually a very very quiet piggy). And they he made a really high pitch sound. He did that over and over and was trampaling Gumbo. So we put Jumbalaya back in his cage and he was still being very vocal and running around all over the place. So we made a secure barrier so they couldn't get to eachother but it seemed like Jambalaya was trying to get under the barrier and get to him. ![]() I dont know what to do. What do those sounds mean and what did we do wrong? If anyone has any advice I would LOVE to hear it!!! |

You can make separate C&C cages for them both. It's not very expensive to get these cages built, please reconsider. |

I tried to tell him that. but we don't have a lot of room. We separated our cage and they cant get to each other, but Jambalaya is going crazy, she cant settle down. And the same goes for Gumbo. I want to get him neutered. But how much does that cost? |

I paid around $100 for each of my three boys to be neutered. |

Please, please, please, don't return that pig. Petstore's are horrible places and you'd be subjecting one of your cavies to a horrible life. if s/he gets bought I'm sure the people won't have a chance to get educated like you do. Chances are, if your GP gets bought, your cavy will go to some bratty little kid. The kid will lose interest and your poor baby will be alone the rest of his mistreated life. If your guinea pig isn't lucky enough to get some little kid, he'll get returned back to the "supplier". They cram 10 cavies to a cage and they often die of diesese. So please don't return him. A nueter is anywhere from $100-$250. Some vets will set up a payment plan to help you out. If that isn't possible why not adopt two more ccavies from a rescue? Pet adoption: Want a dog or cat? Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 After my boyfriend read all that, he said that i can keep Gumbo!! he wont pay for him to be neutered, so i have to raise up money. It'll be hard cause i dont have a job, but it'll be worth it!! Also, he said i had to continue to educate myself on Guinea pigs, but that wont be a hard thing to do |

If space is an issue, you could make two C&C cages, one on top of the other. Then you could adopt another pig of each sex so they would each have a friend. Otherwise neutering the male and keeping them together sounds like the best option. Just remember that they will have to stay separated for a few weeks after the surgery. |

that's what people tell me.... Right now, i just took my C&C cage and split it in half, and each piggy got half a cage. Me and my boyfriend are going to make it bigger probobly on Monday, when we get more cloraplast. |

Are you living with your boyfriend? If not, then why would he care if you even had piggies in the first place. |

I basically live there.... my piggies live there though, he doesn't want them at my house. My mom has her friends over all the time, and there loud and smoke a lot. Me and him want to make sure there in a smoke free enviornment and where they can get some rest. He's fallen for them too. He took me on a shopping spree for them, 125 dollars. Lol, he picked out almost all the stuff. He loves to cuddle with them. |

Also, try to look around your area, and see if there is someplace that does low-cost spay/neuter clinics. There is one near me that does dogs for like $60-something dollars, and cats for somewhere around $30-something dollars, so a guinea pig would probably take the cat price. Sometimes, people can get a free spay/neuter, but you really have to "qualify" (financially/income-expenses wise) in order for that to happen. Call your local animal shelter or animal control shelter (whatever they call it by you L0L) and ask them about low cost spay/neuter clinics. Good luck! |

If you haven't read it already please read: Guinea Pigs Social Life Take extra care to read the Introductions link on the right side. After the neuter and at least 3 weeks longer, you'll want to try introductions in neutral territory. My apologies if you already know this, but I didn't get that impression from your post. Good luck with the neuter. I'm glad your boyfriend has fallen for them. |
