    3 Male Guineas

    When my Louie was sick...Ralph got neglected something awful.
    My dad and one of his friends suggested that I should have 3 piggies, instead of 2.

    the only proble is. My brother will be looking after them when I go on holiday this august and he has 2 males. so I need to get males, also.

    Nothing really specifies on if you should or shouldn't have more than 2 males together.
    They just say "they might fight" and stuff. Well, so MIGHT 2 males. so it doesn't help.

    Is it alright to have 3 males together?

    Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place again -.- I'm just getting used to this place and it's set up is confusing to a newbie like me.
    I'll try to do better in future so don't boot me out, kay?

    I have three males together, so it's do-able. However, mine have been together since the beginning, adding a third to two already bonded males may be rather difficult. There's really no way to know in advance if they'll get along.

    It certainly can work. The key is to have a big enough cage and at least three of everything.

    I'm confused about the part about your brother's guinea pigs though. Are you planning on keeping all of them together in August?

    I have 4 boars and 4 sows and yet to have any problems. Like mentioned, you will need quite a bit of space. Just as long as they don't draw blood then you should be fine! It also helped with me, to spread their veggies out around the cage. That way if you do have one or two showing signs of being bossy and such, they won't be hogging all the food to themselves. You might also want to get a second water bottle or you'll end up filling it left right and center! Good luck!

    I heard that 2 males will fight to the death...If they so much as smell a female.
    That's what the vet told my brother, at least.

    I didn't think it was true. It doesn't make sense. Otherwise Guineas would be trying to kill each other in every shelter, store and animal place on the planet.

    But apparently they'll go nuts if they smell a female.
    So is that true...To start off with?
    I'm a real newbie to the Guinea Pig world. I'm only just getting to know how they...Work, I guess.

    So many people tell you one thing and then so many tell you another.
    It gets very confusing.

    If you put multiple males in with a female, it is very likely that they will fight. (Although if the females outnumber the males by a *lot* and it's a very, very large cage, they might be fine.) If there's a female in the same room but not in the same cage, the males may or may not fight.

    Re: 3 Male Guineas

    Ah. So the fighting depends more on as individuals? As in, one male might not care and another might want to beat his cage mate to the ladies. >.>;
    I guess that makes sense. Thank you.
    I decided to go with males...Mainly because I walked into a store and found one sat in a corner, with a bunny on top of him...And he was just trembling. He looked so terrified...I couldn't leave him there.

    Now I really want a third male, as you all know.
    But Ralph (My original) and Arnold (My new fluffy) are getting along so, so well. I'm partly afraid to introduce a new male but at the same time, if I don't do it now, Ralph and Arnold might bond to a point where they won't accept another male at all.

    So is it better for me to introduce a new one within the next few days, rather than waiting a week or so?

    Sorry for all the questions ;.;

    I really want an older piggy, from a shelter but there's only one shelter in my city and they don't have any.
    I like little ones from the stores but I'd rather adopt a poor, abadoned piggy instead.

    I would wait until the shelter gets a pig--that way you won't be supporting careless breeding and pet stores. Keep in mind that you must quarantine any new pigs in a separate room for three weeks before introducing them. So you can't add another pig within the next few days anyway. Hope this helps!
