Question Wheaking Guinea Pig?

Ok, so I just got done with some lap time with my little Bruce. The strange thing was that he started wheaking while I was holding him. I think that it is because he might have been scared, but why, and how do I get him to be more comfortable with me? Maybe he wasn't scared and it was something else, any ideas?

Re: Wheaking Guinea Pig?

In my experience with cavies I've learned that they wheek when they want to wheek. Usually for food or to get the attention of another piggie. My Gertrude wheeks at me when I pick her but to let me know that she doesn't approve of being picked up, but once I have her in my lap she's fine and calms down. perhaps he just got excited about something or was trying to tell you he needed to go to the potty. My piggies will do that too, they start nibbling on my shirt or pants when they need to go to the bathroom. And as for getting him use to you some good tips in my opinion are too make sure you get your scent on their food so it smells like you and maybe extend laptime to a few times a day. Really though the best thing is time, its just going to take time for him to get use to you.

Wow! That totally makes sense because he kept wheaking, and then he peed on the towel I had him on, and after that he stopped. You are a genius! Thanks a million.

Re: Wheaking Guinea Pig?

Wheeking is just something piggies do. Sometimes it's just playful like when you enter the room or when you bring their food and snacks.

Re: Wheaking Guinea Pig?

Cute... yours is just talkative that is all. Maybe a compliment even as he is feeling "safe" enough on your lap to announce to all the predators in the world where he is at.

If you have your GP frightened, it will either struggling to escape, get "frozen" and not move at all.
