Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Well the title says it all, as I was holding my little boar, (about 8 weeks old) i noticed as he was squeaking in excitement he had bad breath- now excuse me for being sick (i work in a hospital) but his breath smelled like human diarrhea, like that acid scent. My girls never had this scent to them, what could that be from??? Any advice as to how to help this??? It only was occurring when he was heavy breathing on me (squeaking) |

Yeah Haley, I think our breath would stink too if we ate our own poop. |

Guinea Lynx :: Topic - Bad breath Here is one thread you can read over about someone with boars with stinky breath. I have never noticed any of my piggies having bad breath from eating their poos. I have a few thoughts for you to consider. Could there be a tooth problem of some sort? Sometimes a bad odour in the mouth indicated molar problems. Could there be an abcess or infection of some sort in his mouth? That could cause bad breath. Are you positive the bad smell is from the mouth? Boars can get impacted and that can make them smell bad. Guinea Lynx :: Impaction However, since your boar is young, impaction would be unlikely. If the smell is that bad, I would get him checked by a vet. I would be suspicious that something is wrong medically that is causing the bad breath. You could also post on Guinea Lynx :: A Medical and Care Guide for Your Guinea Pig and get some good advice there. |

I would take him to the vet to have his mouth checked for sores or abscesses. |

Thanks for the info, his breath didn't seem to smell this morning, at least not "abnormal" I am going to follow up on the cause of it though. It was coming from his mouth, ever since i read the impaction thread, I've been checking his rear often. |

Ditto clotho. May be something you are feeding but can be a sign of a infection. |
