Re: Shedding

I don't know how much is "normal" but my pigs generally shed all over the place. Just as long as their fur doesn't start to thin or lose patches, they should be ok.

Re: Shedding

My pigs shed as well. However I noticed Piggers itching in one spot and sometimes I see Sienna biting her there. I haven't seen her biting since I switched cages and to fleece bedding. But I checked the area she was scratching and I couldn't see anything and there isn't hair loss so I'm not sure what is going on. But they both shed a lot Piggers more than Sienna

Re: Shedding

My pigs do it aswell so like other people have said as long as they don't have bald patches then I wouldn't worry too much.

Re: Shedding

Is there some way to cut down on the amount of shedding? I saw this tool at Target yesterday, but hesitated in buying it.

Bamboo Care Cat FurBuster Professional DeShedding Tool at PETCO

Re: Shedding

I wouldn't buy those type of tools (there's another product called the Furminator at Petsmart) because they can be rough with the animal. Those tools aren't made to be gentle enough for a Guinea pig.

Re: Shedding

I'm just going to echo everyone else here. One of my girls sheds like crazy to the point that I use a lint brush after I hold her, but she doesn't have any thin or bald areas and I hardly ever see her scratching herself. I've tried a soft little brush, but it didn't seem to help much.

Re: Shedding

A little shedding is normal especially with longer haired guinea pigs. My Abyssinian sheds a lot of hair on me. There's absolutely no bald spot or thinning on her but she just has a lot of hair.

Star Re: Shedding

Yup shedding is normal, as long as its not coming out in huge clumps at the root you're fine.

I basically pet my piggies on my holding them on my lap or chest, put them back in their cage, and then go find my Lint roller to the excess piggie fur off my clothes.
