Can lamp replace sunlight?

I saw the that the best place to place a cage is somewhere near the window where sunlight partially shines in... if my room were to be dark even though there is a window... Will the electric lamp be ok? They don't really need the sunlight, right?

Re: Can lamp replace sunlight?

I hope not. My cage is on the other side of my bedroom away from the window. I wouldnt want it near the window anyway, afraid of drafts. I sleep with the windows wide open. My airconditioner is there also. I am curious as to other responses on this.

Re: Can lamp replace sunlight?

they need some sunlight just like humans do or they get sad, I've started keeping my curtains open I think that gives them enough/

Re: Can lamp replace sunlight?

Right now,,I havent seen the sunlight for sometime...it's been raining here for weeks..I forget what it looks like. I've been keeping the lights on for the piggies since it's been so dark out.

Re: Can lamp replace sunlight?

I used to be going through depression, and my doctor said to get some sun light...I'm not sure if it helps release endorphins, or just what, but i sure know it helps!!!

Re: Can lamp replace sunlight?

There's seasonal depression, which is greatly affected by sunlight.

But, on with the cavies-- I think it's perfectly fine to use a lamp.

Re: Can lamp replace sunlight?

you can get light bulbs that give a more natural looking light. I get mine from Target Reveal made by GE, they give a more natural whiter light, less yellow than regular light bulbs. I use these in my piggy room during the winter when there isn't as much natural light.

Re: Can lamp replace sunlight?

I put the cage next to the big glass window door. Every morning I let the fresh air in, and no direct sunlight.
