Different are for different breeds?

I know the long haired piggies need regular brushing, but I am used to the normal smooth coat piggies, but the two piggies i have adopted; one is smooth same as my original two, but the other one is satin possibly crossed with rex, they can't be sure...

....Is there anything I need to do that is different between normal smooth/shiney coat, to my new satin/possible rex cross?

Re: Different are for different breeds?

I brushed my satin with one of those baby/little kid brushes with the soft nylon bristles. It's super gentle, and worked great because my satin shed alot. I found mine at a dollar store, and it came with a comb.

Re: Different are for different breeds?

My long haired piggie has to have the small tats combed out once a day. I try to detangle them with my fingers first and then comb them. If they're too big I just cut them out so that it doesnt hurt her. She doesn't particularly like to be combed so I do it as part of lap time while she munches on one of her favourite veggies. That seems to make her forget shes being combed.

Two of my boys are Teddy/American crosses. I use a soft bristle brush if I can actually find it, or a small comb just to get out shed hair. Their skin is more sensitive.

Re: Different are for different breeds?

I have an Abby-longhaired cross. I'm not sure which. He hates being brushed, but it doesn't really matter because he doesn't get any tangles or anything. So the only time I brush him is when he's dried off after getting a butt-bath (he gets those a lot because he has white hair and likes to backup and pee on himself then sit in it.)

So it really depends on what bedding you use, how long the hair is, and how often it gets tangled.

I use a wire-tooth brush because it's the only thing I could find. I gets out tangles and I think it should only be used away from the skin, otherwise it hurts.
