How big is my Pig?

In Dorthy's cage we have several pieces of plastic pipe that she loves to play in and around. The pipe is 3" inside diameter. She is not full grown yet, I am wondering if 3" pipe will be big enough when she is full grown? Do any of you have piggies that won't fit in a 3" pipe? Ken

Re: How big is my Pig?

Get a scale and weigh the pig. That will give you an idea of her size. Also, you gave no specifics on your pig. How old is she?

Re: How big is my Pig?

I have some 4" pvc pipe in my girls cage and CoCo is almost too fat to fit through it and she is only 7-8 months old. She has to really stretch out to get through there. I don't know if they make pvc pipe larger than 4" diameter but one thing that works great as a tunnel for larger pigs are fridge pack soda boxes. Just cut both ends out and cut that little lip off and you have a large tunnel that the piggies love running through.

Re: How big is my Pig?

Thanks, this is the type of info I am looking for. This is our first cavy and I don't know how big they get. I have some 4" for when she grows a little. Ken

Re: How big is my Pig?

I think they make 5" and 6", but I am not at all sure of it, so if I were you, I would just look online and at your local hardware store. also, superpet makes something called "ferretrail", and they are tubes for guinea pigs, ferrets, small rabbits, chinchillas, rats, etc, but not mice, hamsters, gerbils, etc, there is a smaller tube product for them. the tubes are 4.25inces across, according to the website: http://www.superpetusa.com/index.html you have to follow the link on the side to get to the ferretrail products, then scroll downand click on the ferretrail tube, sorry, there was no way to get you to the product description directly through a link.

Re: How big is my Pig?

I think you should definitely watch it closely-- a pig stuck in PVC does not sound like a fun situation. If anything, just grab at least a 4" or 5" wide piece of piping, then see how that's going for the pigs.

Re: How big is my Pig?

I have a 5" pipe..that way i don't have to worry at all about them getting stuck..3" seems like it would be too small to me.
