Intros last night

The vet gave Oreo the thumbs up on health yesterday, so we brought him out of quarantine and did the intros. It was very traumatic for me and my hubby. I"m glad my daughter is gone visiting grandma right now. We started with a buddy bath, which went well. Then, we let them have at it on the bathroom floor while they dried. There was much rumbling and strutting and gnashing of teeth from Tyler. Poor Oreo was content to be submissive the whole time. He never tried to fight back. Of course, he's still a baby and half Tyler's size. Anyhow, Tyler chased him and mounted him for 2 solid hours. After one hour, we let them out of the bathroom and into a larger area. Eventually, poor Oreo was exhausted, laying on the ground panting. And Tyler was still going at it. I felt so bad for Oreo. They did share a lettuce leaf, so hopefully Oreo will be allowed to eat.

After 2 hours, it was bedtime, so we put them into the newly cleaned cage. And everything started all over again. But this morning, things seemed to have calmed down some. Somebody ate all the hay and the were given their breakfasts. Unfortunatley, I couldn't watch them eat, so I don't know if Oreo got his fair share of the veggies.

I'm going to invest in a scale so that I can make sure he's gaining and not losing weight. Can anyone give advice on where to get one?

Re: Intros last night

I got a mid-priced digital one from Target, it's not in with the appliances at ours like it was when my mom got hers a few years ago... it's in all the spatula and gizmo thingies, on the bottom shelf where no one looks. They ranged in price here in AZ from $12.99-$69.99.

I'm glad the intro went okay! Sounds good so far... have you tried maybe dividing the veggies and putting them in separate places to ensure that Oreo has a CHANCE to eat, also?

I got mine at walmart for $18...But I wish I had paid the extra $20 and got the digital one. It would have been easier.

I got mine from walmart. It was thirty dollars I beleive, but there were cheaper ones there. I love my scale- It's digital, really thin and small and the tare function is really handy for putting the pigs in a container while they're being weighed.

Re: Intros last night

You can order digital ones from Amazon, there are a few that are within the $15 to $25 price range. I had a non digital kitchen scale for the longest time and I hated it, I like the digital one so much better.

Re: Intros last night

So, how long does it take for them to settle down? Poor Oreo is still getting mounted on a regular basis. His fur is all covered with sticky goo ( ) and I feel so bad for him.

They are sharing food. We brought them both in the kitchen last night to feed veggies and watched carefully to make sure Oreo was getting to eat. This part was kinda cute. They had to be sharing. If one picked up a carrot and took a bite, the other one had to have a bite of the same carrot. Or lettuce leaf, or whatever. So, I don't think I need to worry about food.
