Question smelling pigs

I bought my pig about 2 months ago and it smells bad.Everytime after I bath him,he would smell nice. But after a few days, the gross smell will come back.I've already bath him twice since I bought him home.Is this normal?

Re: smelling pigs

No. He should not be bathed that often either. Once every 6 months or year is fine.
How big is his cage? How often do you clean it? What bedding do you use?

Re: smelling pigs

The cage could be making him smell. It is said that the smaller the cage the smellier it will get. Do you have a pet store cage? Does he have a buddy?

Re: smelling pigs

I think I read something about some boars having an overactive grease gland? It would cause a nasty smell. Maybe that's it?

Re: smelling pigs

Impaction is an anal blockage of fecal matter and other debris, which is why it smells. If left untreated, it eventually turns into intestinal blockage and can be fatal.
www.guinealynx.info has information on impaction.

Re: smelling pigs

Guinea pigs can be bathed every 3 months at minimum or they will get dry skin.

My Baby Mu, "Guinea pigs can be bathed every 3 months at minimum or they will get dry skin." I don't know where you got this, but if anything, it's the bathing that will dry out their skin.
