Whats wrong with Maggie?

I just got my first pig, Maggie.
When i brought her home and put her in her C&C cage, all she did was lay there.
I tried to give her carrots, cucumbers, and hay.
But still all she did was lay there.
Is this normal for new piggies?

Where'd you get her from? If it was from a pet store she may be sick. Is she laying their unresponsive, or trying to hide away some where. Is she alert?

I got her from petsmart.
She seemed to be ok at the store.
Now shes just laying in her hidey house.

Pet store pigs are often sick. If she is acting lethargic, take her to a cavy knowledgeable vet immediately. Though she may have seemed fine in the store, cavies are prey animals who hide their illnesses. She could have been harbouring it, but not exhibiting any symptons.
Pigs from pet stores also tend to be shy and skittish in their new surroundings. It is normal for her to be scared.

Ditto the above. Pet store pigs are often sick. This is why you should adopt - not buy.

Pet store pigs often are not fed veggies. She probably doesn't know to eat hay or veggies.

Is she pooping at all? Do you have a kitchen scale to weigh her?

No shes not pooping.
And no we dont have a kitchen scale.
Its about 11 oclock here.
I dont know if there are any vets open...

Mine laid in their hidey houses for the first two days I got them. They only came out at night when everyone had gone to bed and turned the lights out.

Take her hidey house out and see if she's alert, notices you, moves, runs, hides, anything, if she just lays there you need to go to a vet.

If she's not pooping that's not a good sign. Double check to make sure ,if not I'd take her to vet. You don't want to wait long either. Make sure she's peeing and drinking too.

Ok. Well shes pooping now.
But she wont even go near her food.
I put a hay rack in with tons of fresh hay, still no response.
Im thinking about adopting another to keep her company , but i dont want Maggie to get the adopted one sick.
What to do?

OH i forgot.
Shes shaking bad.
My mom said if shes not better tommorow we can take her to the vet.

Make sure she has clear eyes and nose. Any crusties are a bad sign. It could be she is just scared. If you hear any sneezing or see crusties take her to a vet immediately. As long as she is eating when you are not around she should be fine. Giver her a couple of days to settle.

She more then likely has an URI. She needs to be seen by a vet Immediately to be put on antibiotics. If not treated, it will develop into pneumonia and she will die very quickly. This is not something that can wait until tomorrow, it needs to be seen asap!

My pig I got from Petsmart came home with the same thing. Within 24 hrs both eyes were crusted over and his nose was covered in green snot. Thankfully I treated him and he survived.

Please take your pig into a cavy savvy vet today!

Guinea Lynx :: URI Crusty eyes can be a sign of a URI, which are deadly if not treated quickly. Sadly, many pet store pigs do have a URI.
Guinea Lynx :: Antibiotics You also may want to look at safe guinea pig medications on Guinea Lynx, and print of a list to take it to the vet. Many vets are not knowlegeable about cavies, so you have to be careful about a medication they may prescribe.

Thanks so much.
My moms comming home from work right now to take Maggie to the vet.
We have to drive quite a ways to get to a vet that treats piggys.
But its worth it.
