Climbing cavies?

Okay, so my neighbor just TOTALLY freaked me out. I was showing her my piggies new C&C cage, and she goes "You know that guinea pigs can climb over that, right?" I totally lost it. Now I''m totally paranoid about if ,when I put Cocoa and Pippin in their cage, they can jump or climb out. Have any of you had there piggies climb or jump from their cages? I know Cocoa couldn't, cause he's a total porker(not obese, but he has a heavy frame) and he couldn't haul his butt up there if he tried. But Pippin is eleven weeks old, and he still popcorns. Yeah, I know, paranoia. Answers pleae, though?

They will not climb them.If your grids are 14 inches high like most of them are,then they will not be able to climb them,they might put their two front feet up on them but it will be impossible to get their hind legs up.Don't worry about it,your piggies are very safe.

Does anyone else have any experiences? I was just curious. I'm still a little nervous, because I know my neighbor, and she says that her pig could climb well. I doubt that she would lie to me.

Some pigs have been known to climb, but it's rare. I'm a bit paranoid about it too. I'd like to buy more cubes for a lid, but I can't find any at the moment. I just try to make sure that anything that they can climb on top of is away from the edges of the cage. My pig popcorns a lot, but she's never attempted jumping out. She'll stand up at the sides & beg though.

That's what my chubby boy does. He'll lean on the walls of his cage and grunt at me, begging for veggies.

Mu has grids that are 12 inches high and he is about 7 and a half months old but he can't get over the top. I don't think that they would try or want to unless you have females into the cage next to him. Mu will put his front legs on the cage and lean on them to see what is going on but he can't get out. I don't think most pigs will try to climb out. Keep all the tall stuff away from the sides. If it is possible you can put a grid or two as a top on the cage where all the tall stuff is.

Right. I have a naughty clever climbing pig, but he can't climb the grids. What he did was move a cardboard hidey-house to the side of the cage, climb that, and jump out of the cage. He did this while he was in new-pig quarantine and could hear the other pig talking; he tried to go looking for him! Since having a companion in the cage, he doesn't try to climb out anymore. He has no reason to leave! He also stopped escaping fences during floor time - same reason.

Wow, we must have superman piggies. We have 3 out of 8 that can climb 14-inch grid cages. In fact, my favorite, Roscoe, would climb out if we turned our back and climb onto the top of hit next door neighbor's house. Unfortunately, in just a split second 2 weeks ago, Roscoe climbed out, made a right instead of a left, and ended up on the floor. Even though it was only 2 feet, he fell wrong and now has a compressed disk (between the L's and T's).

So, if they want to visit, they can suddenly be extremely strong and agile.

If you're worried, make a top for the cage - problem solved!

I would it you had a few weeks old piggie. My midnight was 3 weeks and had to be with the boys. The coroplast I used as a temporary wal was only 8 inches high and he would jump a little until he gets his head in the hole and then wiggle his way in. but never had problems ever. He is now a month old and he dont do it anymore. you have nothing to worry about. I got 23 and the cages for 4 months and neither of them ever climbed out of the cage.
