Hotaru

[Slave to the Rose]

Hotaru is my only long haired pig. Yesterday I got so sick of her long hair always getting matted and in her way (and covered in pee/poo) that I gave her a hair cut!

How does she look?


Should I keep her like this? Does anyone have suggestions about keeping them from getting gross like that with long hair?

Good job on the haircut! I don't have any long haired pigs, so no tips, sorry. She's probably more comfortable now!

Wow. I almost want to say you lied and that's actually a short haired guinea pig. Her hair looks like it's just that way naturally. Although I don't have any long haired pig experience, I'd assume it's easier, more comfortable, cleaner, and safer for her and you as well.

She looks beautiful! Did she give you much trouble during her trim? I'm glad that Cookie is short haired. She hates to be messed with, so I'm sure a haircut would send her over the edge and make me a bloody mess.

Maybe you should start a piggy beauty shop?

I have a Texel and his hair drives me nuts also. All my other boys are Teddies, Abby's and Smooth Coats. I definitely prefer the shorter.

I have a long haired boy and it bugs me when petting him it flies up with static and aspen gets in it (which won't for long switching to fleece on all levels)

Aww! He looks like he was naturally shot-haired! I'm sorry, but I don't have any experience with long-haired pigs...Yet!

Looks good! I'm lucky--either Jasmine's hair just doesn't get long because her mom's short haired (my pair are mother and daughter) or Esther barbers her--or both.

Wow thanks so much for all the encouragement!!! And no she really didn't put up too much of a fuss. The only thing is she HATES being exposed (she practically lives under towels in the cage) so I let her bury her head in a blanket so she feels safe then away I went. I did this right after she got a bath so I would occasionally dunk her in to wash off extras

I cut my own hair alot so I guess I have experience at making it look natural. Harrys Dad I know what you are saying. Hotarus hair was so long that standing it came out onto the floor around her and had alittle dragging!! IF she ever came out of hiding I would know if she likes her new hair cut or not .

Did you use scissors or clippers? I have a long haired girl that needs a trim really bad. I don't want to take it all off because the long hair just makes her more unique, but I want to shorten it. You did a wonderful job, she does look like a short hair.

I just used and ordinary pair of scissors. She did just fine. I don't think she even knew she was getting her hair cut!!
