Adding to the herd!

So I just came back from a much needed three week (wheek?) vacation. My two sows have been staying at the local guinea pig rescue and will continue to until I move into my new place next weekend. While they were there, I asked the attendants to try a couple of meets & greets with their fosters.

Since it sounds like I'll be bringing a third piggie home, I was wondering if I still need to quarantine the newbie? I'm also going to revamp the cage. Do you think an L-shaped C&C with a 2x3 on one end and another 2x3 plus a 1x2 hayloft would be adequate? Or should I make one of those areas a 2x4?

Re: Adding to the herd!

If your pigs have already been introduced to the rescued pig you bring home, there would be no point in a quarantine because they would have already been exposed to each other. I would just be sure that the pigs they have there have been fully quarantined and are in good health. Good luck with the new baby. Please share pigtures!

Re: Adding to the herd!

Were they at PiggiePoo?

I agree, though, that since they've already been intro'd and exposed, just a routine keep-an-eye should be norm.

Gooberific - Yes, they're staying at Piggie Poo. I miss them so much, but hear they're doing well I would bring them home now, but I don't think they would appreciate the stress of moving.

Fourboys4now - Thanks for the tip, I'll add some pigtures when I bring them home

Re: Adding to the herd!

I was at the east valley coordinator's place to pick up my new boys last week. She had so many cute piggies I just wanted to take them all with me! Who are you going to be adding to your herd?

That's where they're staying! When I last spoke with Lisa about it, it sounded like Josie would be the one to come home with us.

Re: Adding to the herd!

She's the red and black brindle who's spayed? She's adorable! She almost looks like she could be my boys' mom. Same mischievous look in her eyes. I hope all your girls are happy happy when they get to come home!

That's her! I'm just waiting to hear back from the coordinators to make sure the introductions worked out well.
