First Day.

Hello everyone.

I just started my new life with my first Guinea Pig. Could someone please tell me what is to be expected in the first few days? He went into his Pigloo and hasn't come out all day. When I picked it up to see if he was alright, he just sat there. I was able to pet him, and he still just sat still. He has a pretty roomy home, but he hasn't explored any of it yet. I'm probably just worrying over nothing, but I want to be sure.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

PS. He is an all brown Abyssinian and I'm having a hard time figuring out a good name for him. Any help is appreciated.

Re: First Day.

Well, as for whats expected, thats pretty normal. Make sure you provide plenty of hidey's and tunnels. When I fisrt brought my guinea pigs home, they sat and pee'd in the same spot! She'll probably be like that for the first few days. If it continues, it may be serious.

As for names, I've always liked the name Mikey. Or maybe Hershy? I have to admit, I'm not a name guru.

Re: First Day.

It's really good to know that it's probably normal. That really takes a load off of my mind. As for the names, some of the ones I'm thinking about are: Sergeant Brown, Toffee, Skippy, Tater, and Brutus. I'm not sure, but I guess I don't have to name him RIGHT away.

Re: First Day.

Sounds normal. He is frightened by the change in his life. Make sure he is eating and drinking though. You may need to put food where he is hiding and his water near him. I covered the kitchen end of the cage with a piece of fleece so my newest girl thought she was hiding when she ate. There is a lot if info and people ready to help, Welcome! Read all of the "Stickys". Also, do you plan on getting him another male buddy, they do much better in pairs or groups. What kind of cage do you have for him, I strongly recommend a C&C. Nutrition is also very important!! Timothy pellets (Oxbow or KM are the best), hay at all times, water, fresh veggies and some fruit. I'm not great with names so I'll let somebody else help with that, pictures help. Good luck and you will soon learn the meaning to slave.

Re: First Day.

I'm just going to have one, at least for right now. I'm unemployed, and always home. I plan on giving him lots of floor time, and really get down and play with him. I'm a big animal lover and I am really looking forward to bonding with him and making sure he is very happy and healthy.
