Professional Guinea Pig Groomers Just wondering...does anyone know if there is such thing as specialist small animal groomers?? I know you can pay for dogs and cats to be groomed etc, but can't seem to find any places that deal with long haired guinea pigs. How do people that show guineapigs keep their hair in such good condition?? The hair around my piggies backsides are constantly knotting and damp....I have taken them to the vets to check they have nothing wrong with their waterworks etc and they have been given the all clear. I've just been advised to keep the hair in that area short! Would make sense but they absolutely hate me trimming and brushing their backsides!! I went to town on them last night with the scissors as there were a fair few knots...and they are now officially sulking with me and will probably try avoid me for the next few days! Are their any show people out there that can offer any advice to me?? I really want to get their hair long and in good condition...but they wont stay still for me!! I live in the Oxfordshire (UK) area...I would happily drive out and pay someone who show's long haired guinea pigs to give me a hand with them!!! Phantom35

Re: Professional Guinea Pig Groomers You won't find any links or recommendations to people involved in showing on this site. However, I have a coronet and his backside does get a little messy from time to time. The only thing you can really do is trim the area as you said you do. As far as them sulking goes, try feeding them their favourite veggie as a treat when it's being done/after. Bill has never even paid attention when I trim his hair. The other thing I do is brush him. I brush his hair with a nail brush every day at least once (nail brush is small enough but also strong enough to work through tangles). This keeps it fairly clean. I also use fleece with only a litterbox of Carefresh, so very, very little bedding is in a position to mess his hair up. I don't think you need to spend money getting the pig groomed. Just trim and brush and bribe if needs be.

Re: Professional Guinea Pig Groomers I thought about doing it (Grooming business) but I think I would just ending up being the only customer. My vet office gets $10/pig for nail cutting! I have 4 pigs and can have it done in about 10 minutes, that's $40 for 10 minutes or $240 an hour!

Re: Professional Guinea Pig Groomers I don't think there is usually a demand for such things unfortunately.
