My boyfriend is allergic!!!

Every time he comes to my flat his nose gets all blocked, and his eyes go red. We don't know if it is allergy to the guinea pigs or the hay, because he gets hay fever in spring.

I moved the cage to the spare room for a week and he was ok, so its deffinitely them, but I hate having them there and I put them back in the living room.

We are planing on moving together at the end of the summer. What am I going to do? I love my piggies, I love to have them ON me when I am watching telly.

Does anyone had a similar problem? and a solution?

What kind of hay do you use? If it's Timothy, try switching to something like bluegrass or orchard grass.

I agree. I also have very bad sinus/allergy problems, but when I use bluegrass the symptoms are much, much less severe than when I use timothy hay.

Bluegrass hay solved my problems as well.

give him some hay and keep him away from the pigs and see if he has troubles. If he does switch hay and see if it helps but should rule out the pigs.

If its not the hay and it is the pigs can he try some allergy pills? My mom is allergic to pets but we have a zoo and she took flonaze and it took all her symtoms away. I hope it all works out good luck!

Bedding can cause allergies as well. If you use shavings maybe you could switch to fleece just to rule that out as well. Good luck.

Just make him take benadryl every day. Your piggies are more important, aren't they?

I'm finding myself allergic to the Timothy hay. But that's still what they get. We're working on a storage space outside for the hay (especially when that big load comes from KM's) and that should help a little. But I've been taking some benadryl every other night, and gosh I've been sleeping so great.

Wow thanks for all the replies! I am going to switch hay to start with, then buy Benadryl.

I did try fleece but I didn't like it, my washing machine got full of hair and my clothes and so on, so I use dust free woodshavings.

See how it goes, fingers crossed that it is the hay and not the pigs!
