Does this seem like a lot of $$$$$?

We are going away next month for a week. I called my vet to ask about boarding charges, etc. I mistakenly thought that since Cookie was a patient, I would get a good deal. No such luck.

Their fees are based on a per night basis. I have to supply pellets, veggies and hay. I could bring my own cage or they would supply one.

The charge: $22 a night!!!!

Doesn't that seem like a lot? I called a friend and she said she would be happy to watch Cookie for me. The best part? She won't charge me. Thank goodness for friends. Her kids are friends with mine so I'm sure Cookie won't be starving for attention or veggie treats.

I'd like to know what other places charge for boarding. Maybe I need to look around more.

$22 is ridiculous in my opinion. My very Cavy experienced, exotic vet only charges $8 a night for GPs or rabbits.

I have never had to check for GP's in my area but the best I can find for my dog is $15! That includes 2 daily walks, outdoor covered and uncovered run, food and all that needs to be done. $22 seems outrageous to me!

At the clinic I work for we charge $8 a night. That includes dogs, cats, pigs. Basically any type of animal classified as a small animal or exotic.

Well it looks like I don't have many options. Either I pay the $22 or utilize my friend. There aren't any other exotic vets near my house other than Cookie's regular vet.

Of course, I could take Cookie with us. Do you think she'd like going to Sea World?

Hahah not if your going on a plane!! I feel terrible that I can not give you a link, but I remember looking on a find-a-local-vet type thing with a search for local pig-sitters for free or 2$ a day....22 seems ridiculous...My dog isn't even watched for that much!
