Boarding Guineas

Hi,
I have to board my piggies at our local vet practice. I have a 3 X 1 cage I use instead of the HUGE cage they're used at home, which would be impractical for boarding. My question is will the smaller cage stress out the 2 piggies for 3 days of boarding? I hate to do this to them, but I don't have anyone that can take care of them from the house.

Thanks, Nancy

Re: Boarding Guineas

A 3x1 is way too small for 3 pigs even in a temporary situation, so it may stress them out. You may get by with a 2x3 but nothing smaller.

Re: Boarding Guineas

I think a 1X3 would be OK for two pigs for a couple of days.

Re: Boarding Guineas

do your pigs fight usually? i would think that if they get along well then three days in very close proximity would be fine. maybe you could have your vet take them out once or twice and let them roam...

Re: Boarding Guineas

If you can, I would make that a 2x2. It may seem like the same size but it would be easier for each pig to have 1/2 of the cage and get around eachother, etc.

Re: Boarding Guineas

I back everyone up, a 2x3 would be prefered. How much space are you allowed at the vets?

Re: Boarding Guineas

I would try it for a night and if it looks like they don't like it and it is stressing them out then try to make it bigger, if possible.
