Exclamation Piggies Fighting

I bought my first male piggie (Coco) April 19 and then I bought a 2nd male piggie (Recie) from a different store April 21. When we bought the Recie the lady at the pet store told us they would probably fight to establish dominance and to just let them hash it out. Well it never happened. They got along great! Coco was smaller and seemed to follow Recie around like he was a big brother figure.

It has been over a month now since I've had them and all of a sudden Coco(who has always been a talker) is talking a lot more to Recie, then whenever Recie gets close to Coco, Coco will shriek(not loudly) or do that growling sound. Sometimes Recie starts popcorning thinking it's a game or something or he goes and mounts Coco or starts knawing at his fur(not trying to hurt him). There have been a couple times for Coco gets really fed up and starts running around like crazy or tries to knaw back at Coco and then they start teeth chattering. The first time they teeth chattered I didn't know what it meant and I went to pick up Recie to make sure he was okay and he calmed down. But when I went to go pick up Coco he jumped out of my hands and when I went to pick him up again he bit me HARD. Now I know not to interfere when the teeth chattering is going on.

I'm not sure if this is just a dominance thing going on or if it is b/c the cage is getting too small for their comfort. It is a standard store bought cage, so I have now gone and bought a C&C cage off the website and am waiting for delivery. I just find it odd that all this fighting has started over a month since they've been together. There are times that they are perfectly fine and can be eating next to each other or sleeping next to each other. But then there are times where they fight over the food, the water, the igloo, EVERYTHING! Coco seems to start it all with his shrieking and growling and he's the smaller one!

Please help!!

Re: Piggies Fighting

Unless there is blood drawn, leave them alone. The cage they are in at the moment is too small as boars are territorial. Things should work out better once your C&C arrives and you get it set up and move them to the larger environment.

Are you sure both pigs are males?

Re: Piggies Fighting

that's actually a funny story. i bought coco from Petland and they are just a terrible pet store. I had no help, Coco was running around where anyone and everyone could grab him and they couldn't give me any information on him so I'm not even sure how old he is although i'm sure he's young cuz he's small. I thought he was a female because well you couldn't see his little man. So then 2 days later when we decided to go get him a buddy we asked Petsmart to show us their girls. Well we put Coco up to a girl and he made this purring noise and the lady was like "are you sure he's a boy?" and i was like "umm yeah?" and she pulled back his skin a little bit and well...HE'S A BOY! So we ended up buying another male. So yes I'm sure they are both males.
