Re: new guinea pig just had a babay

This may not be the correct place for this question, but i do need some help. I thought I had two addorable girl pigs. They have been sexed by several people over a period of about 2 months. A few weeks ago, I noticed them taking turns mounting each other, but they didn't seem that interested. I got online and read that it was normal for two females, dominance, same as above, so did not worry about it. Well, two days ago, there definately was a penis there, so now I don't have two girls, but a pair. I am pretty sure she is already pregnant, as she is already larger then the boy. I have quickly upped her veggies and am trying to find information on what to do, so would love to get any advise. I know it is risky for her, she is maybe 3 or 4 months old and I need to concentrate on what to do from now on forward for her health and her babies. Thank you.

Try that link. it goes through before birth, etc.

XXXXXXXXX

Or that one. I'm not sure which would be better, or even if they are helpful, but it was the best I found.

Be sure to check on other threads where you asked about your girl because myself and others have given some advice there.

Re: My gp might be pregnant

Thank you, please let me know the posts. I put in pregnancy and birth in the search field and found a little bit, but not much.
Thank you CavieCrazy for the link, will go there next.

Also, want to mention, I am getting the boy fixed, so there are not problems in the future. THank you!

Re: My gp might be pregnant

Hi there. I meant the threads that you posted questions on - there are responses on some of them. Here are two of the threads I put comments on for you:

http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/about-guinea-pigs/36242-guinea-pig-heat.html

http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/about-guinea-pigs/36085-help-my-boys-trying-kill-each-other-its-all-my-fault.html

I had mentioned already but will suggest again - perhaps you would like to wait on neutering the male until you find out if you have any male babies. You can always house any male babies with the dad once they are three weeks old and dad won't have to be neutered. Just a thought! Please note that even after you get a male neutered, he needs to be separate from any females for at least 3 weeks to let all the sperm in his system die off.

Separating the male from the female is the most important thing.

Baby proofing the cage the female is in is very important as well.

Feeding the female a very good diet with lots of hay and fresh veggies and a good quality pellet is very important. Veggies high in calcium are good for her if she's pregnant. On one of those other threads I explained how to check if she's pregnant and there is a link to the veggie chart to help you know what to feed.

Any other questions please ask. If you can post a picture of your girl from the top perhaps we can give an opinion if we think she's pregnant. Plus, we would love to see her!
