Quick Question We're painting the room in which my piggy's housed this weekend. How long do I need to have her in a separate room while the paint fumes air out? Or should I say, how long does she have to "suffer" in a pet store cage? (since I can't move her 4x2 cage to a different room.) -I will be opening the two windows in the room in order to speed up the process.

Re: Quick Question I know if it were me I would leave them out of the room at least overnight just to make sure all the paint was dry. I wouldn't imagine that the fumes would be good for them, I know it makes me dizzy if I'm exposed to it for more than just a few minutes though. I couldn't imagine how they would feel, being so small and what not.

Re: Quick Question I'd leave them out of the room for at least two days. To allow thorough drying and airing out. If you can still smell them paint after two days, consider another day or two.

Re: Quick Question To be honest, I wouldn't put them back in for a week. Just because you can't smell it doesn't mean the pigs' more sensitive nose can't either. Maybe it's a little overprotective, but I would give it a bit longer than 2 days at any rate.

Re: Quick Question When I painted the room my pigs were in, I couldn't move their cage either (it doesn't fit out of the door). I made a makeshift home for them by putting them in my half bathroom which had nothing they could get into. I covered the floor and put their water bottles, etc. in there. I used a baby gate to close the door when I was home and closed the door if I was gone. I left them out for 3 or 4 days and they were fine to go back.

Re: Quick Question Thanks everyone for the input. We finished painting yesterday. I will definitely wait at least three days and after that I will see if I can smell the paint at all. If so then I'll give it another two days maybe. Unfortunately, I had to take apart my old 4x2 cage to be able to get around to all the areas in the room to paint. Since we couldn't fit it out the door it was the only way to do it. *sigh* So... I just recently finished building a new 2 level 3x3 cage. My dad had an old piece of plywood that would have otherwise gone to waste that we set on top of a bureau; the cage went on top of the wood. It turned out really well and looks great and is very sturdy. I will be posting some pictures of it in the gallery when I get the chance. I feel kind of guilty now having built this cage while Snickers is stuck out in her temporary pet store one until the paint fumes are gone. Especially after she made a help sign and somehow stuck it to the bars of the cage, and spelled out the word SOS with her poos...
