Forgive me if this has been discussed elsewhere, I ran a search for a couple keywords but didn't turn anything up.
I have been trying to trim my very squirmy pig's nails, but he still finds a way to avoid it (either by biting me, my clothes, or the towel I keep on my lap, or by just plain wriggling out of my hand)... I want to try and feed him while I have him propped up against my chest as I take his paws one by one, but I am worried he will choke on his food.
Is this a worry?
The way I prop him up is I use my left hand to support him around the middle, have his feet on my lap, and I curl myself towards him so that way no part of him is dangling or doesn't feel supported. I use my right hand to attempt nail clippings.
He will only sit still when I feed him- since feeding him is the only way I can keep him still long enough to also brush him. Otherwise he wants to run off of my lap and jump off of the couch (which he attempts to do constantly). He's a very smart piggie, so he always susses out my plans to try and keep him still while I clip.
So.. long story short- is it OK to feed him while he is propped up, or will he choke? The last thing I want is to put him in grave danger, so I will only do this if the vast majority of you say it is OK. Otherwise, I will not do this.
Thanks everyone
(I am going to try to have a helper with me next time I clip his nails, so this food idea is really a last resort. Going to the vet is just going to be too $$$ since I do not own a car and it is a $20 cab ride to the vet just to have nails trimmed + the vet fee for trimmings...)
