Ok well I'm XX, and do u think im to old to have a guinea pig? I want one sooo bad an my parents keep telling me Im too old to get one. Any suggestions?

You are never too old to have guinea pigs. I'm an adult with a herd of 5 pigs.

I'm sure your parents are thinking ahead. Guinea pigs live 6-8years. Where will you be in three years? Probably in college. Guinea pigs usually cannot be taken to college. Dorms and apartments don't allow them. I'm willing to bet that's a good part of the reason why they don't want you to get one.

No- you are never too old for pigs. When I grow up, I am going to get as many as possible. Because right now I only have one. Man!!

You can never be too old to have guinea pigs. However, you can certainly be too YOUNG. Guinea Pigs are an investment of time and money. They can live for 8 years or longer. You need to think if you are able to really commit to their care for that long. If the guinea pigs are yours, you need to make sure you have the money to care for them, buy supplies, and the vet bills. Again, where will you be in 8 years? Will you still be in a position to care for them?

That being said, I've been an adult now for decades and I have 6 guinea pigs...I am their sole provider even though there are other family members in the household, I am the one providing 99.9% of the care. Since nobody helps out, I spend hours in the course of the week caring for them...shopping for veggies, preparing meals, cleaning the cage, washing and drying the fleece, giving them floor time and lap time. I love them so I do what is necessary to make sure they are happy and healthy.

Ditto to everything everyone has said. My mom doesn't want me to get any more after I adopt two because she is afraid she will be left with them, and I have assured her even if I did she wouldn't be left with them! In 8 years I will be older than old enough to be in college, and after I'm out I plan on more pigs.

You are not too old. But your parents may not be willing to take on the responsibility.

I agree that you can never be too old, but you can be too young, or ill prepared for the responsibility. All of the pets at my house are mine. My husband and kids just enjoy them. I wanted each and every one of them. I'm the one who cleans up after them, takes care of them when they don't feel well and the animals know it.

My kids aren't nearly old enough for pets of their own, but being a part of a pets care will prepare them for when they are older and on their own.
