I did it - I got a buddy for Spike!

Spike has been with us a week and after researching, I realized how sad it was that he doesn't have a friend. OMG - we just brought our new one home and they are IN LOVE with each other. Spike is already happier and they even snuggled up together in the igloo!

Tomorrow I take them both to the vet for a check-up, so let's hope they're healthy and I can get an idea of how old they are.

That's great that you adopted another piggy!

But did you do any kind of quarantine? And are you sure the new pig is properly sexed?

Sounds to me like they were bought and not adopted. I really do hope you have same sex piggies. I know for a fact that my local petsmart says they only have males, but I went to buy one and knowing how to sex, looked and sure enough, it was a female. She was also infested with lice, and the buddy she was with obviously had ring worm on his face. Needless to say, I put her back and then adopted.

I put an ad out on Craigslist and a lady contacted me - she also had a lone piggie that seemed lonely. I'm taking both piggies to the vet this morning, so if anything is wrong, I'll treat them immediately.

Congratulations! So good to hear that they already love each other. I hope that the vet is able to detect and treat any health issues.

I hope everything turns out great. Im very glad to hear the new piggy was an adoptee. Sorry if I sounded so negative before, it just really sounded like you went out and just bought one. I adopted two from CL as well and they were great with no illnesses. I"m also glad for you that they took to each other so well. Let us now how the appointment went.

Clean bill of health for both piggies -this is an "exotic animal" vet and he seemed to know a lot about piggies...

But I asked him to check for lice and mites and to make sure they were both males - definitely

Their skin looked perfect, and he said it's his opinion that all piggies carry a few lice - and he could comb in several different spots and not get any, and they could still have a few.......... but the key was a Vit C enriched diet and good care, and they will be fine.

(Hope it's ok that I posted this here in a response as well as in response to my thread on the Vet board)
