Have you ever seen your piggie's eyes closed?

I've never seen my guinea sleep - even when he's hiding, if I peek in at him, his eyes are open. I know - dumb question!

Re: Have you ever seen your piggie's eyes closed?

Many guinea pigs sleep with their eyes open. They sleep in short cycles of about 10-20 minutes around the clock averaging about 4 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. They are prey animals and that's why they sleep this way. Cavies very comfortable in their surroundings will sleep with their eyes closed or mostly closed.

Re: Have you ever seen your piggie's eyes closed?

I've read that a lot of piggies sleep with their eyes open. Every once in a while one of my boys will relax in my lap and close their eyes for a few minutes. It doesn't last long though.

Coco tends to sleep with his eyes half open and half closed. I hardly ever catch him with his eyes near closed. When his eyes are like that, he is in his pigloo and laying almost on his side. It is very cute!

I've seen Charlie with his eyes closed a few times, but never Chewie. I actually got some pics of Charlie sleeping. Here are links if you wanna see them.

Re: Have you ever seen your piggie's eyes closed?

I have also been wanting to ask this question! I knew they usually slept with their eyes open, but wondered if they ever closed their eyes. Now I know! There is nothing cuter than a sleepy guinea pig!

Re: Have you ever seen your piggie's eyes closed?

Mine sleep with there eyes closed quite a bit. They also lay on their sides. Sometimes with their little heads on the big pillow in their cage. I once looked in and flash was on his side with his back foot staight up in the air. I went in to panic! I walked over and said " flash!". He rolled to his feet and looked at me like I was sleeping woman what do you want.

Re: Have you ever seen your piggie's eyes closed?

I have two boys. Piglet sleeps with his eyes closed all the time. The first time I saw him I freeked out thinking he died, but now I'm very used to it.

Patches I've only caught him with his eyes closed a couple times and they were only shut for a few seconds.

I do have to say they are so cute when they are sleeping!

Re: Have you ever seen your piggie's eyes closed?

I've caught my boys with their eyes shut for a brief period of time. Arrow (the brown one in my avatar) was laying on his side and I snapped a cute pic. Bo often relaxes so much on my lap that his leg appears limp and he shuts his eyes and coos. I love my piggies!

Re: Have you ever seen your piggie's eyes closed?

Champaign, Skeeter, and Piggy Bear seems to close eyes when they sleep in a secure area at night. They open eyes while taking day naps in open area. Skipper Doo seldom closes eyes.

Re: Have you ever seen your piggie's eyes closed?

Our piggies both sleep with their eyes closed frequently. Makes us really good to feel that they are comfortable and trust us.

Re: Have you ever seen your piggie's eyes closed?

Has anyone seen their guinea pig sleep at night? I think most people know how usually when they visit their piggies when sleeping, the piggies wake up quickly with just a little noise. Well, once I got up during the night because I couldn't sleep, and I went to check on Pumpkin (god rest her soul) She was fast asleep-with her eyes open. It was so different from when she sleeps in the day time because it was impossible to wake her up. I softly called her name a few times, and she didn't wake up like usual. It is also really strange because she was so deep in sleep that she looked like she was in a trance!
Haha. Anyways, I just wanted to share that.
