| Question about getting another guinea pig I got my first 2 guinea pigs a few weeks ago from a pet store (now I know it was a bad idea). One of them, Sophie, got sick within the first week of me having them. I brought her back and she was diagnosed with URI and put on meds. The second one, Cali, was fine for another week but then got sick and didn't respond to the meds so she had to be put down. I got Sophie back on Friday and she is doing really good. She finished the meds last Tuesday. She was kept in the back room of the store in a cage by herself. I went and saw her a few times. She is eating a lot and not as scaried as she was before. I want to get her a friend and I will adopt this time. When should I think about adopting a friend for her? |

| Re: Question about getting another guinea pig Since she was treated at the pet store, I would wait at least 3 weeks before looking for a friend to make sure she isn't going to develop another URI (or other disease). Pet stores, unfortunately, are hotbeds of diseases for small animals, and so treating her there exposed her to anything that any of the mill bred animals have brought into the store. |
