Re: Biting piggy

My Milo gave me two nasty bites last week, both of which drew blood. The first time was because I picked him up and carried him to his cage, which he hates with the most passion. The second time he misjudged the food in my hand, and bit my finger instead.

He also becomes an avid nibbler and turns in circles when he wants to go back to his cage to potty.

Re: Biting piggy

Hi
Thank you Haley0489 & rabbitsncavyluv for you help.
Booboo is only 2months old so hopefully he will grow out of it.
He did have mites before i got him, can they keep on suffering with them even after they have been treated by a vet? The vet said he was clear about 3 weeks ago so was wondering if they had come back.
Thanks

Re: Biting piggy

I have an adult female that I adopted and she nibbles/bites more often than not. She is a hardcore nibbler inside and out of her cage though. Hands to her are nothing more than chew toys. When we first got her, she was listless and not very energetic which made me think that we had a calm, passive piggy. Come to find out once she was settled in our home, that she wasn't really at all calm and passive. She is very energetic and active.

Being that your piggy is still relatively new and young, I'd give it some time and see how things go. You just may end up with a loving, adorable piggy like mine that likes to chew on anything, everything and everyone.

Cheers.

Re: Biting piggy

I would think think about taking him back to the Vet for a re-check. Are you positive she did treat him? If she did, did she take him back for a re-check, because sometimes it can take 3 or 4 treatments to completely get rid of the mites.

Re: Biting piggy

This posted helped me too Im a first time cavy care giver, and my baby girl Nibbles love to come to my hand and get attention while Im feeding her in the morning and she constantly nibbles my fingers (hince her name ). I was worried there was something wrong because my second cavy Blondie wont nibble my figers matter of fact unless Im feeding her she wont even give me the time of day... but I guess that is just her nature

Re: Biting piggy

I have two piggies and one is the most docile, sweet, calm thing, the other is more hyper and likes to nibble on everything: you, your shirt, your watch, whatever. She has "nibbled" on me several times but it didn't hurt. She stops as soon as I move my fingers away from her mouth. She did bite hard enough to draw blood the other day, but I think she just got carried away with her nibbling because she wasn't distressed at all when she did it. It was just a tiny bite along my cuticle and healed up in a day. She will take veggie bits out of my hand and the other won't. Maybe yours is like mine.

Cool Re: Biting piggy

I am glad that this post is helping others to.
I know the lady did take him back to the vets and complete his treatment.
He has not bit me since and i did make his dinner just before picking him up, so hopefully that was why.
Also i have now got a hayrack (so there is loads more hay for them to munch on), pellets and vegs too.

Both my boys are some much more contented.
