Long hair piggies?

Okay, now that I have a long haired piggie, I need to know a little more about their care!

My Piggie is getting long hair at her bottom and at her head. I had no intention of having a long hair piggie, so I know no idea about their care.

So far, we have had no problems, but I assume I need to get a brush for her! What kind of brush and where should I look for one?

I have not bought any shampoo for my piggies because they haven't needed it, but with a long hair pggie I can only imagine I will need some! What kind of shampoo and where should I look for it? By the way she is almost all white! I don't know if that makes a difference in shampoo types?

Is there anything else I need to know about long haired piggies?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!

Re: Long hair piggies?

Any kind of baby brush can work, although I have trouble with that actually going through the hair. Mostly it just brushes the top. I now use a rabbit brush, they are vary soft bristled, yet they still go through the hair. As for shampoo, long hair piggies aren't really more predisposed to baths in my experience, just more brushing. You can buy guinea pig shampoo from pet stores, I haven't seen any at wal-mart though. I buy mine from the Gorgeous Guineas website. They have many different types for the different needs you may need. Don't get ahead of yourself worrying about special needs. It's really not much different. Or you can always just give a piggy haircut Good Luck!

Re: Long hair piggies?

Hi! I am adopting long-haired piggie soon. She is a peruvian. Newpiggiemommy, is yours a peruvian too? I will groom her hair often. She will probably look cuter with short hair. For shampoo, I do use shampoo for small animals. Hobo is quite a popular brand here in Singapore. Not sure about US. I heard some people use Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo for their pigs too. Something not too harsh for them.

Re: Long hair piggies?

Maisy~I have no clue what she is! I have a short hair guinea and she had 3 babies, 1 short hair and 2 long hair. Your guess is as good as mine!

I know Johnson and Johnson is not exceptable for dogs and cats, so I am guessing it is not exceptable for guineas either!

Thank you both for your advice!
