| Posting this on a few forums as I need some oppinions on my sows behaviour: The last couple of days Tallulah (the boss) has been pretty grumpy towards Gypsey, granted Gypsey can be slightly annoying at times towards her but she hasn't been too much of a pain. Tallulah has chased her around, mated her, rumbled at her etc. I haven't seperated them or anything since there isn't any blood. Tallulah was 1 years old on 2nd March this year and Gypsey was 1 years old 11th April this year, so maybe Tallulah thinks she needs to make sure she stays boss? They have plenty of room to get away from each other, enough things to do, plenty of water and food to go around although I might get another hay rack and food bowel. Just a side note for more information, I noticed they were itching badly a few weeks ago so they have been being treated with Ivermectin, all had the course now though although they are still itching slightly it's nothing too bad I would say. Any ideas or is it just typical seasons? |

| Re: In Season? This may help a little, maybe not. One of my two girls goes into heat big time every few months. She rumbles and chases the other girl, mounts her and the neutered male, but rarely lets the male near her. I actually have to remove the harassed girl to a sepafrate cage overnight to give her some peace. I tried removing the rumbling one, but she went crazy trying to get out of the second cage to find the other girl and was getting really distressed. I think I have a lesbian pig. She won't let the boy near her, even when she is as rumbly as that. Neither girl will! The fact that your piggy is rumbling may just be heat, however, the grumpiness may be a symptom of ovarian cysts. It could also perhaps be a sign that she is ill in some way, and her rumbling may a reaction to other pigs challenging her and chasing her, as pigs may try to force out an ill member of the herd. This was what happened to Thalestral I think. Keep an eye on her, it may just be heat, and will pass. Some girlies can be quite ferocious when they are in heat! |
