Pig singing

I have heard that a pig sings, although extremely rarely.

I thought that was a bit of exaggeration of the occasional long wheeking.

Today, after the all day labor of re-designing my cage, I was exhausted and laying down on couch. Then I heard strange bird singing from somewhere close.

At first, I couldn't even guess that it was from the cage. But my wife and daughter were already in front of the cage watching Skeeter with disbelief.

I don't understand how a guinea pig can sing a such beautiful song. By "song" i mean a true melody with chord and rhythm, that you rarely hear from a morning bird.

He had been singing for about two to three minutes. We (both human and other pigs) all listened without making noise. Then everything went back to normal.

Re: Pig singing

Wow. You are super lucky to hear that! I know that some piggies can make a sound, kind of like a bird chirping. I have heard a sound clip of a piggie making the chirping noise, but never singing! No one realy knows what it means when they do that. Count yourself blessed!

Re: Pig singing

Neato! You have a special pig!

I have a whole herd of chirpers (usually they get going around 2-4 in the morning) but no singers, so I am jealous. I think.

Re: Pig singing

Sounds to me your piggy loved the new set up. I haven't heard mine sing. maybe one day. Maybe I should put them closer to my parakeets and they can teach them to sing

Re: Pig singing

Our TeeJay likes to do her singing in the wee hours of the morning.

I usually have to get up and get her a snack to munch on to snap her out of it so we can get back to sleep!

It is a beautiful sound though. Some people with chirpers think it's annoying, but we think it's adorable (even though we lose sleep because of it)!
