Looking for a Guinea Pig Breeder I wasn't sure under which category to post this. I am going to be getting two guinea pigs soon but am having trouble finding a breeder. I live in Douglas, MA 01516. I have searched everywhere with barely any luck. I know there are plenty of pet stores in my area that sell them, but I heard that it's better to buy one from a breeder because just like dogs they are usually more healthy. If anyone knows any around my area or anywhere I could go to find out please let me know. I have searched on the internet as well as other places. Thank you.

Re: Looking for a Guinea Pig Breeder You will not get help here to find a breeder. We can however help you to find a rescue, or piggies to adopt from a shelter.

Re: Looking for a Guinea Pig Breeder If you go to a respectable rescue that specializes in cavies you will be able to find many breeds and they will be healthy and if not you will be told of their health problems.

Re: Looking for a Guinea Pig Breeder I would highly recommend adopting. You can look on petfinder.com, guinealynx.com, craigslist.com, and I have personally adopted from 2 great people on this site under the adoption listings. There are so many wonderful piggies waiting to be adopted out there, you just have to be patient and look.

Re: Looking for a Guinea Pig Breeder Obviously you must be knew to the forum to ask for info on a breeder. Breeders do not have pigs that are any healthier than store pigs. It is much better to adopt! Not only are they cheaper, but you save a pig. I adopted two from craigslist.org. I found many rescues with pigs in my area from petfinder.com as well. Other people have posted these options for you and I would go with one of them. Please dont be part of the breeding problem!

Re: Looking for a Guinea Pig Breeder Breeders are just as bad as Petstores, if not worse. Many have genetic problems, and help add to the growing overpopulation. Everytime a breeder or petstore breeds giunea pigs, they are killing one in a shelter. Whoever told you breeders were better than petstores is just plain wrong, and I wouldn't take their advice. Adopting is a great option because there are sooo many cute, adorable piggies in shelters that are miserable and desperately needs a home. You would also be saving a life, since eventually in a rescue, depending on whether it is a no-kill shelter or not, they die if they are not adopted(unless it is a no-kill shelter). This website is great, full of fantastic info on guinea pigs, and does not support breeders or petstores, as we members care about all pets. Please adopt!!

Look around this site and see if you don't change your mind on buying from a breeder. |

Re: Looking for a Guinea Pig Breeder Ok ok relax people. This person has been chewed out enough. Giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming he's not a troll, let's not chew him out further, because we don't want to drive him away. Hopefully he'll read the entire website and come to understand why it's important to not support breeders and pet stores that sell animals.

Re: Looking for a Guinea Pig Breeder I want to apologize for even suggesting anything about a breeder. I was misled I guess you could say to buy from a breeder rather than a pet store but I would be happy to adopt. I am just looking for two female guinea pigs to home and take care of. I am sorry if I phrased it the wrong way but I was just having a lot of trouble finding a place to get a guinea pig. I didn't want to buy one from a pet store for the very same reasons many of you said. Thank you to anyone who gave me some good sites to look at and didn't just as CF#5pig said chew me out. I am new to this and have been doing my best to research and learn about guinea pig care, etc. Please have patience with me. Everyone was new at this at one point and probably didn't know much if anything about rescues. I mean everyone I have talked to about a guinea pig rescue have looked at me weird like they are surprised that there are even ones out there. Now that I see that there are some I will definitely look into them.

Re: Looking for a Guinea Pig Breeder Glad to hear you are looking for rescues, breeders can't be trusted completely...before I knew about the proper consequences of buying from breeders I got my Tallulah from one...they were show pigs, all very pretty although that didn't really matter to me back then ethier but it just goes to show that sometimes breeders can be so wrapped up in looks they forget health issues. Tallulah has genectic diabetes, and should be insulin dependant, insulin however does not effect her - medical mystery. She has to be monitored close with diet, and she has been prone to mite outbreaks and dandruffy skin. My healthiest pigs are those I adopted. Good luck with finding two beautiful rescue/adopt pigs, you will be saving a life.

Re: Looking for a Guinea Pig Breeder Adopt Leela & Lexus - Guinea Pig Small&Furry Adopt Frank & Ross - Guinea Pig Small&Furry Here are two websites from petfinder that I am interested in. In one there are two males and in the other two females. I emailed both places and hope to hear from them soon about these cute little guinea pigs. Thanks for all your help.

Re: Looking for a Guinea Pig Breeder In one of the adoption applications I filled out it asked that question. I wrote that as long as there are guinea pigs who need to be adopted I don't see any reason to breed them. I'm glad I learned about guinea pig rescues because I would rather give a needy guinea pig a good home rather than go to a breeder. Although, I am sad that the guinea pigs bought from pet stores or breeders will most likely end up dead or at rescues because people that most likely will buy them from them will not properly care for them.
