Uh-Oh. Help?

Okay, well here's the story, my elderly neighbor (She's about seventy) knew I loved piggies and that I recently lost one. I still have two. She decided to buy me one as a gift. It was from a pet store. =/ I cant take her back though. Ever since I laid my eyes on her when she gave her to me. She is just precious. But , heres the deal. I don't know much about the wee ones. All I know is that she is less than 6 months. She doesn't seem to be showing a lot of interest in food, (she will much occasionally). She is also doing little like vibrations every 2 or 3 seconds that last about 1.5 seconds. What do you think this could mean? I am going to get her to the vet, but I can't get her there today. I need suggestions as to what could be wrong. She is also laying around a lot more. She isn't like as energetic as she was when I first received her. Could she just be settling in finally? (I got her on Saturday) But I don't know what the vibrations mean. She will walk around, but she is no longer running away from me or whatever. Also, could she be too young to be gone from her mom possibly and she should be eating something special? I can post some pictures if it helps. But please help me!

Re: Uh-Oh. Help?

You do have her quarantined right?

She would only be too young to be separated from her mother if she was less than 3 weeks old. If she is several months old that shouldn't be an issue. One thing I would be concerned about is that she is indeed female. You need to make sure.

Sounds like she just may be rumblestrutting at you to show you she is the boss.

As far as the neighbor is concerned you should let her know that although you appreciate the gesture you do disagree with the pet store philosophy and to consider looking at a rescue in the future. Of course you do have to be as gracious as you can because you don't want her to consider not making such heartfelt gestures in the future.

And can't wait to see pigtures.

Re: Uh-Oh. Help?

Okay, thanks. And you think it is just rumblestrutting? Not like a breathing issue? Because my other pigs rumblestrut all the time, but this is like a quieter little like buzz almost to go along with breathing. But I don't know. And yes, she is in quarantine.

Re: Uh-Oh. Help?

Its not really a sound. Its just like she vibrates every 2 seconds or so. Like you can't hear it, you can just feel it. (She is sitting in my lap) Could she also be cold? She is in a towel though. I'm just worried that since she is a pet store pig she could be sick. Do you know what I mean?

Re: Uh-Oh. Help?

My Teddy does that shaking thing. They get scared and shakes. Teddy likes it when I wrap her up in a towel when I hold her.

The link didn't work, but like I said earlier, it doesn't sound like anything. I can just feel it.

Re: Uh-Oh. Help?

I have one that is only a week old after having been told the wrong sex of one of mine, anyway, after three weeks of age they can be away from their mother. Perhaps he/she is just getting use to the new surrounding and maybe a little scared? I would not hurt your neighbor's feelings however, she gave it to you just keep it, I mean in the old days that is where everyone bought a pet, she would know no different. (:
You have a nice and thoughtful neighbor.

Re: Uh-Oh. Help?

So you think that she's just scared? She does seem to have stopped a little bit. Also, what is the average heart beat per minute of a piggy? (Just so I can make sure.) I'm such a protective/worrying piggy mommy.

And I am pretty sure she is in fact a girl. I felt/gently pressed all over and didn't get anything to pop out.

Re: Uh-Oh. Help?

I've had several vibrating pigs. It's usually when I am holding them, petting them, and they don't like it and/or are scared. I did have one pig who vibrated when she liked it though. Or so it seemed!

Re: Uh-Oh. Help?

I think the vibrating is fear. My new pigs do that sometimes when they are freaked out. They are usually vibrating out of fright. It's different then rumblestrutting.

Re: Uh-Oh. Help?

Okay, yeah, thats what I thought. Because my other pigs rumblestrut and it sounds TOTALLY different. Anyways, she is seeming to be doing well other than that. She is a little shy though. And she is camera shy. I was trying to take a picture of her to show you guys and shed turn away from the camera or crawl under the towel. I will get one up this week though. I will succeed. Haha.

Re: Uh-Oh. Help?

When they make a sound like that it is out of displeasure, or probably in her case she is probably frightened. Glad to hear she is doing fine otherwise!

Re: Uh-Oh. Help?

Also, one more quick question. I am trying to litter train her, and I have a plastic container in there with her, but she still seems to go in her hidey. Any tips? Also, she doesn't seem to be interested in her veggies AT ALL. I have been giving her one baby carrot and a piece of romaine lettuce, and she isn't touching it. Should I try other types of veggies? Or just keep putting that in?

Re: Uh-Oh. Help?

I have read around that putting an old rag in the hidey house makes it easier to clean, cause like you said she often goes in there. And for the vegetable question, I am really unsure! I am having the same problem with my pig, cept he eats lettuce, cilantro, parsley, and some carrot, but otherwise he doesnt eat anything. Now for Grimace, he certainly has no trouble eating anything. haha.
