My dad put fertilizer on the grass about 10 days ago. I was wondering when it will be safe again to take my guinea pig, Honey outside to graze again. Thanks!

Re: Need Help Please!!! I am not totally sure about this, but I would have to say it is probably not safe. The chemicals may still be lurking around on the grass. I would not do it, it is not worth the risk. Maybe you could have a special section of grass and grow it and have it just for the guinea pigs?

Re: Need Help Please!!! As I previously mentioned, I am not positive about it, so I don't know when it would be safe. Maybe someone else who knows about this, can give you the answer you are looking for.

Re: Need Help Please!!! I would say that your piggy should NOT go on the grass at all. The chemicals that are put down on grass last a long time and will come out in the grass shoots. Better safe than sorry. I'd say grow them a flat of grass for them to play on and eat.

Re: Need Help Please!!! Does anyone go the the co-op and buy wheatgrass seeds and grow their own for their pigs? I'm concered about the neighbors spraying their lawns with chemicals anytime now and it drifting onto mine.

Re: Need Help Please!!! I'm growing some wheatgrass. It looks like...well...grass. You can get little bowls of it already seeded with special dirt. Water it and it does it's own thing. You could also buy a wide, low planter and plant your own kinds of grass. My piggy loves the grass. I cut a small handful of it and put in her cage. She sucks it up so fast! My kids love to watch her. They say she looks like she's vacuuming it up without the noise.
