Is my pig chattering at me?

Last night I was holding on of my pigs when I heard an unfamiliar noise. He was laying on my chest, all stretched out and seemed pretty comfy. After I had been petting him for a while, I noticed a very faint "click" noise coming from what appeared to be his mouth. It wasn't a constant click, but every 10-20 seconds there would be a single click. Was he chattering his teeth at me? He didn't seem to be stressed or at all agitated.

That sounds more like he was just chewing on something, perhaps a piece of food that was in his mouth.

Chattering is usually rapid, and you'll know from their body language if it's supposed to frighten you off.

My grumpiest boy chatters at me now and then, when he's in a bad mood and doesn't want to be disturbed, but he's never actually bit me or anything.

He might of been grinding his teeth, they do that too. Or like Cherish said, a peice of food in his mouth.

Whew! That's a relief! I didn't think he'd be chattering at me, since he was stretched out all comfy, but I don't speak guinea pig yet either, haha.

Not to be a wet blanket, but you should have him checked out for a URI or heart problem.

Was going to suggest that. I would get him checked out for an URI or heart problem. One of the symptoms of an URI is "clicking." Also, there are articles on URI's, heart problems and finding a vet amongst other things that you can read on Guinealynx.

Oh no

I read the URI page at Guinea Lynx up and down, and didn't see the clicking memo. I'll call for an appointment this weekend. My vet is also my uncle, he's familiar with small animals, and is good friends with another exotic vet. So surely one of them will have my answer...

I have had a piggie with a URI before. Sometimes, depending how far along with the URI they are, if you put your ear up to their chest, you can hear a weird crackly sound. I hope your piggie is ok!
