Strange behavior among 3 males

Hi.

I have three males in fairly large cage (thirty square feet)

One of them is keep trying to mount other pigs. I mean it's not sort of dominance thing. It's sexually intense. The little p**** is really erect. And it doesn't rest for hours. They are all positively confirmed as males.

I currently blocked part of the cage to give them some timeout. Anyone had similar experience?

Re: Strange behavior among 3 males

There is nothing strange about that at all. It is in fact a dominance thing. Yes, there are a lot of hormones involved, so it's not uncommon that he has an erection. After all, even if it isn't sexual, it still feels good, and his hormones are probably inflamed. How old are your pigs? It sounds like your "mounter" is the dominant pig.

Incidently, penis is not a bad word and doesn't need to be ****'d.

Humping is pretty normal between pigs. It's often a dominance thing. If one is going through puberty, it happens a bit more. They usually calm down after awhile.

Have the three been living together awhile or did you just introduce a new one?

Re: Strange behavior among 3 males

I have 4 boys in a cage together and they get along the majority of the time. But every few days I'll notice my Peppers will start mounting poor Frisky. It'll last a couple of days then die back down.

It's normal. My dominant pig has actually ejaculated on my younger one's back several times.... it's all about showing who's boss.

Re: Strange behavior among 3 males

I have three pairs of males (6 boars total) and none of them have displayed the prison sex behavior you guys are describing.

When Chompsky and Oppenheimer really go crazy, I put up a temporary barrier (a cube grid) so they can still see but can't get to each other. Usually after about 10 minutes they are again driving me batty because they are calling to each other, so I take the barrier down and they are fine again.

I know it's not recommended to separate males if they aren't hurting each other, but I've always been successful temporarily splitting them up as long as they can always see each other and it isn't longer than a half hour or so.

Good luck.

Well you just aren't giving them the chance that's all. If you were to forgo the barrier, you would most likely see a such behavior.

I have 4 boars in one cage. My littlest pig (Harry) is constantly trying to mount 2 of the others (Dodger and Mr. Wiggles) and lots of times the biggest pig (Chopper) comes and gets in between him and whoever he is bothering at the moment. Then turns around and waggles his butt at the one he just "rescued". It is very funny to watch him dash all the way across the cage to stop Harry from pestering the others.

I have some things to get in order first, but when I get the chance I think I am going to do a buddy bath and maybe that will calm Harry down. It seems bothering everyone else is all he ever does.

Re: Strange behavior among 3 males

Thanks for all the replies.

It was very educational to me and my wife regarding natural instinct of male mammals, which includes homo sapience.

The boar in question is 9 weeks old. He was really frustrated when locked out and even tried to break grids with his teeth. Funny thing was, the targeted pig also tried to break the grid and get to him. But the heat lasted only for about 9 hours and they are all ok now. I removed the barrier last night.

If this happens again, I will just let them get along, for all its worth.

Thanks.
