Not sure if this should be in the cage section but thought that was purely C&C. Anyway after contacting the rescues in Essex, with one left to reply although I'm not sure if its one we have contacted before, no rescue wants the cage because they all have permenant set ups or in no need for it etc. I also would rather not drop it off at my local RSPCA charity shop because I have worked there and know full well within the staff are people with Guinea Pigs who will probabaly take it, put £5 in the box (if that) and house about 4 pigs in there - there is even a woman working there who is uneducated about pigs basic care (feeds colourful mixes, iceburg lettuce, sells single pigs to 9 year olds(!) straw and the list goes on Although I pay for 80% of the things my pigs need (Toys/C&C Cage/Towards Vet bills) my mum has put ALOT of money into the pigs and she wants to sell the cage and make atleast abit back, which is fair enough since the rescues did turn the offer down and they have been sitting their for months but I would hate to think that someone is going to house their Guinea Pigs or even rabbits in there . I have the smaller Deluxe cage and the largest one and I have offered the rescues to choose which they wanted but would sell the larger one if I did end up selling and keep the small one for qurantine/ill pigs. I also have no idea what to sell it for, and I AM whether my mum likes it or not (she thinks I try and put my information where it isn't wanted sometimes and interfer) putting a page of C&C information with links to here in it.

Re: Still have my petstore cage Even though the cage is too small for piggies, could it be suitable for smaller animals, such as small rats, gerbils, hamsters, mice, etc? Maybe you could donate to a smaller critter rescue or advertise as suitable for the above.

Re: Still have my petstore cage I would try and persuade your mum to keep it! They can come in handy. There are good for quarantine, or sick cages. Even though we live in Essex where evacuation is rare, you never know when you might need to up and leave suddenly. I keep my small one in the shed, I use it for transportation and for when a pig has had surgery. You can sell it and state it is not suitable for small animals, but honestly.. a determined person really isn't going to listen, you'll never know what might get stuck in it.

Re: Still have my petstore cage UPDATE: They got back to me saying they are no longer interested since they are too fay away (other side of Essex). We have literally tried every rescue we could find so my mum is now going to sell it, but I am going to put a pack of information with it to whoever collects it about C&C cages and links to here and Lynx etc. Does that sound okay? I think my mum knows it wasn't exactly my first choice of ways to get rid of it but since I have been going on about rescuing a couple of rats she said she will give me the money it makes to go towards the £230 Ferret Nations cage, which I guess is good since it means 2 or 3 rats can get a home.

Re: Still have my petstore cage Essex Classifieds in Essex Free Classifieds try putting it on the Essex Gumtree classifieds under pets if you haven't yet. It might sell there if your Mum wants it sold. You might get the rat cage you want on gumtree too. At the end of the day, if someone wants that kind of cage they will buy it wherever. I don't mean to sound defeatist, but you can only advertise it as unsuitable for x number of certain types of animals and hope they pay attention. Like you say, the money will go towards something positive, and if you want a really positive spin on it, it will be one less sale made by a pet store.

Re: Still have my petstore cage If it is manageable to carry, you can sell it is a pet carrier. I use old pet store cages that people donate to me as pet carriers, they work really great. Especially since I have three bonded rabbits and two of them are quite large [around 8lbs each].

Re: Still have my petstore cage All you can do it tell them it isn't suitable for permanent housing and should only be used as a quarantine or travel cage and give them links to here, but you can't control what they actually decide to do with it. Just know that you tried your best to inform them and try to stop worrying about what they actually plan to do with it once they get it home. Take the money and put it towards that cage for your ratties. It really is all you can do.
