| I saw a post in the adoptables discussion from a family about 20 miles from me "desperate" to adopt out a pair of bonded boars due to family alergies. I currently have two boars both about 10 months old in a 8x2 with a 4x2 upper level. These new boars I think are around the same age. Money isn't an issue, neither is space .... if they all get along. I guess in an extreme case I could section off the bottom into two 4x2's but I really wouldn't want to do that. I've seen lots and lots of posting for adoptable pigs, but something about these guys and their pic ( it looks like they both live in a petstore cage) is getting to me. Has anyone had good experiance with 4 coinhabiting boars? Any other advice for me? |

| Re: Can four Boars get along? Considering adopting. I don't have four boars, but I would suggest bringing you boars along to the house with you when you visit, before adopting. That way, you can introduce them one by one, and see how it goes. With boars, it can always change from best buds to enemies in a day, but if you let them have some time together in a nuetral area for a couple hours, and they get along, it will probably be a good bet. If you can't bring along all four, then bring atleast the two most dominant/hardest to get along with. Good luck! |

| Re: Can four Boars get along? Considering adopting. It depends on personalities, first and foremost. Secondly, the fact that they're all young, but have hit puberty, should be good. Quote:
If you really have your heart set on getting the boars, just make sure you can handle the repercussions should they not get along. Get your guys, quarantine them in a separate room to make sure they're healthy, get them their vet checks, spoil them like crazy, etc. After three weeks, introduce them in a large neutral area, maybe with a friend or spouse helping out (to grab a pig/pigs if necessary), and see how they work out for a while. Pop some hay in there, and you could end up with four very happy boys. You have a 2x8 with a 2x4 loft, so as far as space goes, I think you're setup is quite nice. You have a lot of space to work with to give each boar his own 'part' of the cage, and they're all young - it seems to me like you have a good possibility of the four meshing. Let's just hope the boys agree! |

| Re: Can four Boars get along? Considering adopting. I do have 4 boars living together in a 3x6 c&c cage. The last of the 4 living together was adopted on January 1st of this year. So far they get along great. Two of them are over a year old and the other two are approximately 6-8 months old. I have a pigloo for each piggy plus a couple of large cuddle cups and a corner tent in their cage, so they all can go their separate ways if needed. I've read positive stories on this site of people having larger herds living together and then some people have had boys who just couldn't live together. In February we adopted two new boys and I wanted to have them with the first four boys, but one of the new pigs and my first pig just fought too hard. So we put them back in a cage by themselves, and left the first four pigs like they were before. Good luck if you decide to adopt them, and if you do we love seeing pigtures! |

| Re: Can four Boars get along? Considering adopting. I have four boys in a 2x7 with a 1x8 loft. Sure, they do have their little tiffs now and them but at the end of the day they are all friends. |

| Re: Can four Boars get along? Considering adopting. I haven't got much experiance with introducing boars so I can't help out there but I have heard many success stories with large groups of boars. Like someone else said it depends on personality of the pigs etc. If you decide to go along with it, good luck and I hope they get on well! |

| Re: Can four Boars get along? Considering adopting. Thanks for the replies guys. I just spoke with the owner. I believe she really cares about her boys getting a good home. She said that one boy had a "mole" on his eyelid that was removed by a vet a few months ago and that he hasn't had any problems since then. I'm not sure what she meant by that but the fact they have received vet care is a big plus in my opinion. They are in a petstore cage which I would probably just keep them in for quarantine purposes. Now I just need to confirm this is OK with all members of my house and then set up a visit with her. |
