| What do I do if blood is drawn? Ok so I wimped out too early while introducing my pigs. They started fighting and hair was flying and I got scared. I will try it again for sure. But before I do, I need to know how to take care of a bite wound if needed. How do I clean it? What do I put on it (ointment, etc)? Do I need to bandage it? I should have asked this BEFORE I tried the introduction. So, this is me asking... |

| Re: What do I do if blood is drawn? Just a couple of months back I introduced my 2 newly adopted older boys to the 4 boys I already had that lived together well. It went okay for the first couple of days with just the usual rumblestrutting and mounting. On about the 3rd day the new boy Cerk really fought with my current pig Peppers. Cerk had a really long gash kind of to the side of his snout area and poor Peppers had a place that I thought was just a matted hair or dirt on it and when I pulled lightly it was a scab and puss oozed out. I took them to the vet the next day and she looked both over and said it was bite wounds that had got infected and that by acidentally pulling the scab off it was actually good because the infection got to drain. She also sent us home with this blue color antiseptic soap to wash each infected place with daily. She also pointed out a few places on Peppers that felt like infections was setting up and she advised me to pull scab off them when they came to a "head". I did and cleaned them nightly and they healed fine. Good luck, I know it's nerve wracking. |
