Is she Blind and deaf? I adopted a female about 2 weeks ago and she was beautiful, I love her pink eyes but she seemed to stare into space... so I Just thought she was scared from coming to a new home. But to day I was sitting with her during floor time and was taking out the lettuce and my other piggy was squeaking and she was just siting there? and wasn't looking at me when I made noise?

Re: Is she Blind and deaf? She may just be scared and nervous. Have you tried clapping your hands right up behind her when she is facing away from you? I also edited the title of this thread because you had "blind and death" where it should have been "blind and deaf".

Re: Is she Blind and deaf? Thank You!!! And... yes I did clap very loudly and she seems like nothings happening, she doesn't even turn around. If she is deaf i wouldn't treat her any differently. Oh, and shes albino ( white with red eyes ) could she be one of those "roan" babies?

Re: Is she Blind and deaf? I had a black-eyed, white ferret once who was deaf but not blind. After doing some research on the subject, I discovered that it is quite common for albino and lutino animals to be blind and/or deaf. So, I'd say it is quite possible your new piggy is one or the other or both. I also learned that it is more difficult to tame a deaf critter because they don't seem to learn the "you've hurt me" sounds. Our vet was able to determine positively that the ferret was deaf, so perhaps if you are very concerned, yours could help you. Good luck.

Re: Is she Blind and deaf? I sometimes suspect that my pig Pumpkin might be deaf. I personally wouldn't do anything different. Just be aware that she may not be able to hear you. Maybe talk to a vet, I don't know if they can tell if shes deaf or not?

Re: Is she Blind and deaf? aw, if she is, then: poor baby! I would imagine that would be sooo difficult, because she can't "talk" (since she doesn't know the sounds) and she can't see, so she has a hard time finding her way around. Is she always very suprised to find you petting her? As in, she sorta flinches for a moment when you first touch her, then relaxes?

Re: Is she Blind and deaf? She'd be considered a PEW as there are no such things as albino's in guinea pigs. Are her front teeth there and normal looking? Does she have any trouble eating?

Re: Is she Blind and deaf? I am told, though I have not needed to try this myself, that running through the ringtones on one's cell phone is an excellent way to test for deafness in guinea pigs. Pigs who can hear tend to find the noise somewhat irritating, while a deaf pig, of course, doesn't care.

Re: Is she Blind and deaf? She eats ALOT!! and her front teeth are perfect. Is that PEW thing that if they have babies they come out lethal? I have No intention of doing so but I just wanted to know?

Re: Is she Blind and deaf? No, PEW is simply a white guinea pig with red eyes. Many guinea pigs have red eyes and have no trouble seeing. Like Red eyed oranges and varieties like that. A lethal is when you breed roan x dal, roan x roan, dal x dal. I don't know the exact percentage but sometimes only half the litter comes out lethal. Sometimes all. From what i've seen... They tend to have white fur, and small eyes. There was a guinea pig owned by salana(correct me if i'm wrong) that had small white eyes and was a lethal. Lethals also tend to have missing teeth making it hard for them to eat solid food.

Re: Is she Blind and deaf? She doesnt look blind in that picture. The staring into space thingo could just be that she is sleeping (they tend to power nap with their eyes open, but if they are relaxed or in a deep sleep their eyes are closed).
