Ok so im ashamed to say it but i bought my new pig from the pet store. I know I know, please dont yell at me but there are NO shelters near me with guinea pigs. Plus I wanted to give her a better home! anyway So I brought her home. Her name is Zoey and she is pretty young. She is the total opposite of Izzy who hates to be touched. ll she wont mind if you pick her up and she sits content in your lap/arms, however she is doing this shaking thing almost like a low vibrate...is she scared? she also is not moving much at all. Its concerning me. Is this bad? ok and I cant tell if Izzy likes her or is mad. Shes doing this weird clicking thing that wth her teeth when they get close. but she also makes squeaking nosies when they are together. Zoey wont move though. when im holding her she makes EXTREMLY LOW squeaks but they are there. anyway, they were together during floor time and Izy just kept shoving Zoey out of the roll thing. So are they ok with each other? Is ZOey Ok? Is she sick? is it just going to take her a few days to get comfy? And can I put the 2 of them in one cage? thanks Srry that was so long

Re: Introducing My new pig... help! I'm not going to yell and no one else should yell either, but just because there were no pigs in rescue/shelters near you doesn't mean that you couldn't have found one either through petfinder, craigslist or your local newspaper. You didn't have to buy the pig. Now read www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm. This is important and will answer your questions about the noises. Also you definately need to quarantine your new pig in a separate cage in a separate room for the minimum of 3 weeks. You should not have let them near each other at all as of yet.

Re: Introducing My new pig... help! Hey I know how you feel with the shelters near u, i had the same problem with my second pig. So i went to the pet store and got him, i wont regret it cus i got a lovely boy who i love and who Sparky couldnt live with out. I would keep them apart for awhile and then take Zoey to the vet and make sure she is healthy then after a couple weeks have them on the floor and see how the react to each other.

Re: Introducing My new pig... help! The link Ly supplied should answer your questions. I adopted my girls from a rescue centre over 1 hour away from me. When I hear people say 'there isn't a shelter near me, don't shout at me, I bought from the pet store...' I generally think if there is a shelter within a 2 hour radius then...

Re: Introducing My new pig... help! I agree. Just because you have to drive further than what you would for work is no excuse to buy from a pet store. My husband and I drove an hour and a half to get our last pair from a rescue organization. There are ALWAYS piggies out their waiting to be rescued from either Petfinder, a rescue organization, or someone needing to rehome. If luck is on your side, your purchased pig will be healthy. And you really should read the links and stickies regarding introducing a new pig before you post. They will answer a lot of your questions and keep your stresses to a minimum
