My pig has black nails on her right side and white nails on her left with the exception of one being black on the left back foot. Does anyone know anything about this? Never seen it before and thought it was cute but want to know if it's not a bad thing. Good to have a side where i know how short to cut the black nails.

Re: Different Colored Nails. That's normal, it's just where her natural markings are. One of my boys has a black foot with one sandy-coloured toe!

Re: Different Colored Nails. My piggies and dogs are like that. If the skin and hair is dark they will have black nails, and if the skin is light/white they will have white or tan nails. That is absolutely normal! The light color nails are easier to cut and give you a guide as to where to cut the dark ones! It is a good thing!

Re: Different Colored Nails. Mine all have different coloured nails too, perfectly normal especially for pigs with tri-colour etc colourings. I hate black nails though! Really hard to clip. My vet said since I was able to help diagnose my pigs pretty rare illness I should be able to clip nails but they scare me so much >-<

I have a piggy with all black toes and had the same problem. The flashlight helps, but I also trim them twice as often so I can just trim the tips off and not risk it. I always have quikstop on hand, but the one time I trimmed too low my Biscuit wheeked and I felt horrible. |

Re: Different Colored Nails. I have never thought of that I might try it! Thanks for the tip. I have two piggys that are differcult to hold while you do it so I have to get my mum to hold them which I think makes everything more complicated. But I am going to have to try and learn how to hold them and do them like my vet does. I think he feels bad charging me the £7 ($14) per pig! ![]()
