| Quick sound question! My little guy is trying out a new sound. He almost sounds like he has a little rumbling motor going on. It is not quite a purr, but more of a loud rumble sound. Is this a normal sound? And what does it mean? I also can't see him when he makes this sound because he is hidden in the heap of hay! |

| Re: Quick sound question! It's the rumbling sound. Usually goes hand in hand with the rumblestrutting when they sway their bums back and forth. He's most likely telling another pig to back off. It's a dominance noise, but perfectly normal. |

| Re: Quick sound question! Ly ~ If he is in a divided cage, him on one side and 4 girls on the other would he still be trying to determine dominance. He is alone on his side with a grid and cardboard barrier between them. Do you think I should build him a cage away from the girls or is it okay for him to be making this noise all the time? |

| Re: Quick sound question! He is probably still making that noise because he knows the sows are there. It's not a big deal, so you don't really have to seperate them. Sorry, I know that was adressed to Ly, but she hadn't anwsered so I just thought I could help. |

| Re: Quick sound question! I thank you all very much! It is a very strange noise and will take a lot to get use to hearing it. It seems like he is trying to get the girls attention! Very strange! |

| Re: Quick sound question! Quote:
A lot of people mistake a "brrrr"-type rumbling sound for a purr. When, in fact, it's a sign of pain or discomfort. In most cases, the cause is sore skin from having mites. Here is a link for treating for mites. Use the Iver-On Ivermectin Pour-On and you won't need to use a needle in the syringe to draw it out of the bottle. Pour-On Ivermectin Treatment You can find it at a local TSC (Tractor Supply Company), or online at Jeffers Pet (livestock section). Even if your pig doesn't have mites, it won't hurt them to do the treatments. We automatically treat ALL of our rescues when they're in their 3-week quarantine period. In almost all cases, they become noticably more comfortable and calm. |

| Is it normal for them to rumble at blankets when they are under them? Are they trying to show the blanket that they are the dominant ones ? |
