Guess what?

I have decided to reply to an add that I spotted in the local newspaper. From what I could get from the add, a couple are moving overseas and have to sell their guinea pig, 2 rabbits and 3 budgies as a result. I have no idea what the pig looks like, how old she (apparently she is a she, though I will certainly have to check this out for myself) is or any details really. I have just shooted through an email, and will follow this up by ringing them in the morning.

From there I will see if she is still available. If she is then I will work out when I can collect her.

I still have the carrier set up (which I used for Buttercup after she was recovering from her operation) and the 2 food bowls that I purchased to go in it. So I am planning on putting her in there for the quarantine period. I just need to work out what bedding to use.

I have no towels left over (all are now used on their new level), though may be able to scrap a couple together. Any suggestions on bedding will be appreciated. I think I have a bit of pine left over that I could use.

After her quarantine period I will need to set up an introduction day. It will have to be a Saturday so that I can properly watch them over the weekend.

The brilliant thing about the quarantine period is that I can also use the time to bond with her and to get her settled in.

I am so excited. I hope it doesnt fall through. If it does, it will just mean that it wasnt meant to be and that is fine, I will just keep an eye out for any other homeless pigs out there.

Re: Guess what?

I finally got hold of the owners. The pig has black long curly hair (so she is probably a texel) but they dont know how old she is (which doesnt make any difference to me). Their lack of knowledge shocked me, so I am thinking that she will be in pretty poor condition. I am just working out some tid bits on my end, then I will ring them back up and work out the final details. In the meantime they have put her on "hold". I hope to pick her up tomorrow (if I cant make it today).

Re: Guess what?

Congratulations!
And I hope she's in relatively good health when you get her.
It must be nice for the poor little thing to finally get some little friends to play with, once her quarantine period is over.

And (possibly) a Texel, too! I'm so jealous; I love Texels, but they rarely seem to end up in rescue centres around here.

Re: Guess what?

Unfortunately I have been sick, and so havent been able to pick the pig up. I called the pigs owners again a few days ago and they had sold her on.

The good news (not sure that it is really good news - it just means that there are some more pigs out there) is that I picked the Quokka (newspaper) up yesterday, and noticed that they have alot of adds in there about guinea pigs that need new homes. There is only the odd one that are from breeders and so I will avoid them like the plague.

I did call a couple of people up that night (the Quokka got released that morning) and alot had already found new homes. For the time being though, I am going to hold off really looking into getting another pig as I really do need to sort myself out first.
